Vidoe option on camera used to work, but now: 640(fine) is not available

My camera us a sony cyber-shot dsc-40. I have a memory stick with 128 MB (2 actually, and it won't record on either one). I have been taking videos with this camera for 2 years now, and it worked fine. then about a week ago I was deleating old vidoes off of my memory stick and then the video function stopped working. I had no idea what was going on because my screen was constantly white, but I found this site and tapping the 'sweet spot" worked great. the screen says "640(Fine) is not available.
I tryed reformatting the memory stick, but that didn't do any good. Please help!!!

The solution using a 2 GB memory stick instead of a 128 MB isn't the answer, because I have the same problem using a brand new dsc-H50 camera, but I have a 16GB memory stick. It worked in the very beginning, but now (about a week after purchase, I get the same error: 640 (fine) is not available). Can anyone help? Thanks

Hi

I think to work on 640 fine you need a much higher memory stick, I use a 2gb in mine and it is fine (that is when the camera works) .You get 24 minutes or more on the 2gb stick and that is at 640 fine.

I have a Sony digital camera model # DSC S75. I would like the largest memory stick available for still photos. I get confused with GM and MB. I found one for 32 GB, is that the lrgest and about how much...

I did a bit of research on this, and you're going to have to be very careful. Your camera is only compatible with the very first generation of "memory stick". That sounds like a generic term, but it's actually a Sony specification. Please take a look at the wikipedia page on memory stick, and note all the newer versions. Also note that the 'memory stick' is no longer manufactured. Here is a list of memory sizes, I agree that the Mb and Gb are confusing. Each one is double the size of the one before.

8 Mb
16 Mb
32 Mb
64 Mb
128 Mb
256 Mb
512 Mb
1 Gb
2 Gb
4 Gb
8 Gb
16 Gb
32 Gb
64 Gb

Now, you will have to find a genuine Sony "memory stick" and not the Pro, or Duo, or anything like that. When they were manufactured, the largest one was 128 Mb, so that is the limit for your camera. Anything in "Gb" or Gigabytes cannot be a memory stick. I did find 128Mb memory sticks on Amazon. The review page on DPreview will tell you how many pictures you can store on a card half the size, just double it.

Have Sony CyberShot DSC-F707 Sony Memory Stick Duo Adaptor and Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo 4gb When installed get C:1301 error

Hi,

In DSCT1 Camera, the C:13:01 error message indicates a Self diagnostic message. Each of these codes indicates the symptoms and resolutions of the Camera. In C:13:01, the issue is with the Memory Stick being used in the Camera.

The Symptoms are:

Memory Stick Pro Duo 4GB is not compatible with the DSCF707 Camera. Maximum capacity supported by the Camera is up to 128MB. Please try using a MS with 128 MB and check if it works. A dedicated adapter (MSAC-M2) must be attached to use Memory Stick Duo or MagicGate Memory Stick Duo media.

Thanks.

Hi, What is the maximum memory stick size that will work with this camera? Thanks,Tony

Hi Tony,

I found several sites that sell memory for this camera, all stated 128 MB is maximum. One such site is linked below.

I insert a memory stick and it says "No memory Stick" although it will take and record pictures . Does anyone know where i can purchase a 128 Memory stick for the DSC -F707?

You should purchase online from some secure seller.
Like here, its Sandisk Homepage.
search for the compatible Card from the bottom right tab.

Also Note that DSC -F707 doesn't support more than 128-Mb cards.

If helpful, Kindly DO RATE!
Best Regards.

Memory Stick error c:13:01 My old 512 MB memory stick is working fine. However, recently I brought a 2 GB memory stick and when I put it inside, the camera (Sony DSC S40 cyber shot) shows: MEMORY STICK...

Is your new 2GB memory stick is original from Sony or after market? some of them will not detect in CAM because the contact on MS were not touched iside the slot of CAM
Reinsert your 512 MB MS if it work fine then change your 2MB MS
Good luck

Dime

Hmmm, for recording videos you just have to go to the movie mode and press the button
Photographies doesn't seem proper because of all the black dots on the LCD screen, once on the computer, they're good.
And maybe you can't record videos cuz you don't have a memory stick and you're trying to record on 640 MP fine quality. For that you have to get more than 128 mb on your memory stick.

Which memory stick ?

Several of the Sony cameras require a high speed memory stick for 640 x 480 30fps movies. Here is a clipping from the Sony P150 specifications: "MPEG VX Fine with Audio (640 x 480 at 30fps), (MPEG VX Fine requires Memory Stick PRO media)"
