We just bought a Hamilton Beach 40886 Stainless Steel Electric Cordless Kettle I'm trying to find an instruction manual for this item. This was a clearance item with no box or manual, so I would like to know how to take care of it.

Defective heating element is the most likely cause, but doubt you can have it repaired as they seldom make replacement parts as there is little demand to repair them..

What a crazy over-complicated kettle!
Disc element kettles do tend to have a limited life that is a small fraction of the lifespan of standard kettle elements. The ones I have had usually only last until the guarantee has expired. To discover whether it is the kettle or the base it will be necessary to use a multimeter to check the supply from the base.

Whats very common on cordless kettles is the contacts inside the base get badly caboned up, You can fix it by opening up the base, and cleaning the three contacts with a disposable nail fie. Then re-assemble and it should be fine. If you can get at it, the ring and the center contact in the bottom of the kettle can also be cleaned with the file.

That appears to be a thermistor problem. The thermistor controls the temperature and is normally not user-replaceable. Call the 800 number for verification and possible replacement of the kettle.

check if it is broken at the hinge.

Buy a new one ANNE. They are cheaper to buy than fix.

At 8 months old it should still be under warranty unless things are radically different where you are.

Take it back to the supplier under warranty.
