Screen going blank and laptop freezes.

When I close the laptop (Dell Inspiron 1000) with a screen displayed on it then open it back up, the screen goes blank and the hard drive light stays on as being in a frozen state. The only way to get it operating again is to hold the power button down and turn off the computer then turn it back on again. It does this with either battery or AC power. I can't seem to find the problem.

Go into the diplay properties, under the screen saver tab there is a button marked power, open this. Under one of the tabs there is a section that reads, when I close the lid, under this section set it as never.

My dell inspiron laptop 1000 screen turns dark every few seconds. if I close the computer half way and open it,it stay bright for a few seconds and turns dark again

This is your back light on your lcd display, To prove that have a flash light handy when it goes dark point the flash light at the screen and you should see the screen and that would mean right there you got a back light going out or the inverter that powers it is going bad. Etherway if this is not your area of work you need to tech it to a computer tech local to have it repaired.

Thanks for being considerate with your ratings and feedback today.

Dell Inspiron 1300 blank monitoe

Hello,

the problem might be from the screen or from the screen inverter.

Connect your laptop to an external monitor and try again.

If there is a display, then its obvious that the problem is from screen or screen inverter of your laptop.

Good luck.

Dell inspiron 5100 goes blank sometime only could be online or just playing a game. Lights on the front are still blinking when this happens when I close the laptop lid then open it the screen comes back...

Sounds like an issue with :
1) Loose connection issue between the display and mail unit. For this you may need to visit the service center to have it checked.
2) In some cases, this issue is resolved after re-installing OS. ( seen for myself on a non-Dell laptop, issue was gone after reinstalling XP )
My guess is, its a loose connection which needs to be fixed by the Dell service center.
Thanks.

Screen goes blank during use

Go to your settings menu and adjust the bar that says to turn your screen off after a minute.  If that don't work then have IT open this puppy up and replace the bulbs or inverter.

The screen is not coming on at all. i connected

With the external monitor connected, try holding down the FN key and pressing one of the F keys at the top of the keyboard that has a Monitor icon on it. This should turn off the external screen and show the laptop screen. If you press it a 2nd time, BOTH screens should show up. If still blank, Press again until the External Monitor comes back on. Then go to www.dell.com/support and go to Drivers for your Model. Then download and re install the VIDEO or DISPLAY Drivers. This should fix it if its a missing driver. If STILL no display on the laptop, call Dell.

Screen going blank and laptop freezes.

One thing that I've noticed about the Inspiron 1000, is the LCD ground is done exclusively thru the hinges. Try tightening the LCD hinge screws (Marked with a (D)) 2 on the bottom of the chassis and possibly 2 on the back. (I just tightned every screw I could find)

Once the ground connection is improved, the LCD may work better

I have Dell laptop inspiron 630m. I formated the laptop then the display driver is missing. Its showing all the things except its display got more wider

just check your video card model, then go online to download the video card driver.
in case you have a build-in-video card like intel .....somethings, just go back dell.com and check your model , and download the video card driver.

Installed new motherboard for Dell Inspiron 1000- blank screen

The F5 and F8 functions are normally used by Windows to shoose between C:\, Safe Mode and normal boot.

Setup is a function of the BIOS manufacturer and it could be any key but is normally F1 or F2 as the screen says in your case.

I don't know what your specific problem is but it is a new board and sometimes they don't survive the installation due to improper handling.
The almost universal use of CMOS technology makes some of the chips very sensitive to static discharge even with countermeasures in place to protect them.

PROBLEM WITH DELL INSPIRON 1000

Hi,
Well it seems that the system is running but there is no display on the screen. To confirm that try connecting a external moniter ot the system and see if you get the display on that. Also try hitting the NUM lock key and see if it turns on and off as well. After connecting the external moniter if you see the display than there is an issue with the screen and incase u still do not see the display than there could be an issue with the video card.So incase you still have the warranties on the system you call the dell tech support and get the parts replaced.
Hope this helps!
