I have a 4 year old Sony KDF-E42A10 television - the power/standby light blinks red 5 times, pauses, blinks red 5 times again, etc. I have replaced the lamp previously when the light was blinking red 3 times. Not sure what the problem is when the light blinks 5 times. Any ideas of problem and repair costs? Thanks!

Hi there,
5 blinks means there is a problem with the video board. It could be as simple as unplugging everything, includding power. Wait 3 minutes then plug power only back in. Or it may be a damaged component that requires replacing.
Hope this helps

How many times this standby/power light blinks at one time switch ON?Count it carefully. These blinks are fault indication, and known as blinking codes. From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON; you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside the TV.This will make repair easy. My parents have a Sony KDF-E42A10 42" LCD TV. They have audio, but no video. Screen is black. Do you think they need a bulb replacement?

Yes, if lamp has not been replaced in last 2-3 years then it is lamp problem. If tv does not shut down and its standby light does not blink in red then lamp is cause of problem, replace it to fix tv issue.

I have replaced the lamp block and now the power stand by red light is going on and of (this was a new lamp block). Do I need to reset some how?

Hi,
If standby red light is blinking 3 times after three second pause then check lamp cover that has no been fixed in its place correctly, it is first thing that you removed from tv cabinet to replace lamp, make sure lamp cover is back in place properly and tight.
If standby red light is blinking more or less then 3 times, let me know to diagnose problem.
Thanks.

I just replaced the projection lamp and now the "power/standby" light is blinking red.

How many times is it blinking before there is a pause? Most likely it's blinging 3 x's then pause over and over. That is a lamp switch error. Meaning its not engaged. Try reseating the lamp and making sure it all the way in and try again.

Sony KDF-E42A10 rear projection TV. Won't turn on.

Start by changing the lamp. If you got 5 years out of the old one, count your blessings, most folks only get three. The lamp is designed to be replaced by the consumer. Ebay will carry a replacement for you or you can get it directly from rivervalleyelectronics.net. They've got good prices. The lamp door is on the back. Its really easy, give it a shot.
