Something is stuck between the inner (rotating) drum and the outer (fixed) drum. In my experience this is likely to be something like a wire from an underwired bra.
Empty the machine and carefully feel the inside of the drum all round. If you find something protruding you may be able to pull it out with a pair of pliers/pincers.

Hello,
There are two different types of "drum balancers" manufactured into washing machines today... One is a disk type (most washers with this have 2-6 depending on age, manufacturer, and quality), the other type is a self-balancing style. It sounds like you need to order some new drum balancers. The repair will take approxmiately 1-3 hours depending on if the it is a front or top-loading machine.
Hope this helps, James

Washing machine drum seems to be jammed. Filter is clear. Drive belt seems to be intact OK and intact. Any suggestions?

sounds like something jammed between the inner and outer drum.
sometimes people get curtain hooks jammed in there. Obviously turn off the power before you start dismantling it. Sometimes you can get access via the drain plug opening with a long screwdriver or something.

Washer makes loud scraping sound

Could very well be the pump as well. These pumps have been notoriously bad for the pully shaft housing slipping down and hitting the pump pully. More that likely your problem.

Spin cycle trouble

possibly a segment has raised on the motor armature or a faulty motor brush. pop off the belt and put it into a spin cycle to see if you still hear the noise- if so the fault is with the motor as the drum will be still. any scraping sounds in the drum may be a lost bra wire.

Terrible scraping noise from drum, what is it?

more likely there is a bra wire caught between the inner drum and outer tub, possibly wrapping itself around the element in the bottom.
