I purchased a used Zebra Eltron P310C a few months ago - didn't have time to play with it, but need it up and running now. It's running on Win XP. I've installed the Zebra i Series Card driver & it selected the Eltron Parallel Port. I can see the printer, when I try to print a card, the printer hums, the print job goes to the printer, then disappears without printing the card. I've also installed the Eltron P310 Card Printer and that's on Com1 Serial Port. That one shows as a print job, but disappears without printing. This printer only came with a serial cable. There are no USB ports. Suggestions?

you need to increase the baud rate of the serial port on the printer and pc, the default baud rate of the serial port is 9600kbp which is heaps slower then the LPT port which can rate atleast 100 times faster.

the reason why it is taking 45sec before printing is because the pc is sending a lot of graphics data to the printer, this can be cause by two main things

1) you could be printing a lot of logos or graphics .

or

2) you are printing using a nonhardware font so the driver has to convert all of the text into graphics. you can fix this by selecting a hardware font (has a printer logo next to it's name in word). also outputting EPL (the printers native command language) would be extreamly quick.

you could also download ZebraDesigner which includes drivers.

i would also recommend not updating the firmware as it can do more harm then good, and if you make a mistake you kill the printer and it voids the warranty

Two possibilities are the port configuration and the type of serial cable.

The printer has a feature that will try to match itself to the PC's configuration. Press and hold the feed button until the green status led flashes three times. While the led flashes send a ZPL format to the printer (hopefully you can do this through Design Pro by trying to adjust the printer or print labels, but the labels will not print). When the printer and PC are synchonized, the led changes to solid green.

If you can synchonize but still can't print, the problem might be the serial cable; not all serial cables will work. You should use a full null model cable (all pins connected except 1 and 8).

Make sure your image is only 1 page.
Possibly the printer is printing the second page blank.

I know you are most likely printing a single card.
But some times LARGE fonts or LARGE images will print as 2 Pages.

Check it out.

When you connect a printer to your pc the operating system adds a virtual port. Your pc will typically have 3 physical usb ports but can have as many virtual ports as you have devices to connect to it.

1: Ensure that your printer has media loaded and is powered up and ready to print. Connect the USB cable. You should get a message on pc screen saying device (printer) found.

Open printer driver ( double click on the zebra printer icon - Start/control panel/printers & Faxes/) Click print test page. If it doesnt print you will see a printer icon with a red question mark.on your toolbar, double click on this. This will bring up a small window showing status of the print job, Click printer/properties/ports. Select the next free usb port and click apply. Drag the print status window so that you can see the message in the status window change from Error print to error Restarting. repeat trying each of your usb ports until printer works. start with the higheat usb with highest number and work your way down.
