Dear Sir,

You can install upto 3 GB RAM. i.e. 1GB PC3200 DIMM RAM in each slot.

Please go to BIOS settings & load the defaults. / check following. BIOS settings.
DIMM clock & timing is auto/ detected by SPD (Serial Presence Detect)

Possibly the 1GB RAM you are trying to install does not have SPD / is faulty. Try with a new / working 1 GB RAM.

Hope this helps you friend...

I want to know which memory to buy for my pc. I checked it on crucial.com and it said I could upgrade to 1gb. When I looked inside the cover I saw a 256mb memory chip but could not see how many slots it...

hello, here's a part of the spec from the hp website. It looks like you've got 256mb on board memory and one expansion memory slot in which you can fit a 1024mb card, giving you a max memory of 1280mb (1024+256).
Hope this helps!

Memory upgrade

The M45-S169 only has one available memory slot.
(I'm confused about your post that states "M45-S265" in the head line).

  • Configured with 512MB DDR SDRAM (both memory slots may be occupied)
  • 512MB(min)/2048MB (max), 256MB on-board memory with 1 available memory slot for 256MB, 512MB, or 1024MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz SDRAM 2.5V SODIMM memory modules
You can find the complete specifications here.

Dimension 2400 is at 1.5MG - will not go to 2.0MG per manual!

yeah thats a normal issue with the dimension 2400 as the older bios only supports a max of 1gb of memory you will need to go to the dell website which ive linked below and get the bios update which will give you support up to 2gb-pc3200 ddr memory

Asrock K7VM2 Motherboard Memory Upgrade

Some MOBO support different type of memory modules like ddr 400, 333,533 and other, if your computer is working fine with that PC400 it only means that your MOBO is compatible with it. Since you're planning to upgrade the memory just get another PC400 because the memory should be the same to work fine.
