To program your remote follow these steps.
1-Turn on the receiver
2-press the "AUX" device key on the remote control
3-Press and hold the "setup" button until the aux key blinks twice, than release the setup button.
4-Enter one of the following codes
30176 or 31176
5-If you entered the code correctly, the AUX key will blink twice and turn off. Now aim the remote at the receiver and press power. If the device turns off, than the code functioned properly. If the receiver does not respond, restart the procedure and enter the other code provided

Normally makers don't play ball between each other. Yes if it was a Samsung Television and a Samsung Receiver A/V System. Or if you have something like a Cable Box or Satellite System that is made to interact with other makes. Or if it is a Universal Remote.

I think you were just lucky that it happened to use the same frequency. Look in the manual for a scan command.

I cannot figure out how to get sound through my Yamaha RX-V361 from my LG 37CS56 hdtv

Are you using any kind of Decoder or Set Top box to receive your TV signal?
If so you can connect the RCA OUTPUT from your cable or satellite decoder, to the Yamaha inputs. See the picture I have attached for you.
Then when you want to hear the sound from there, select DTV /CBL input on your remote control of the Yamaha receiver.

Or you can locate the SOUND or AV OUTPUT (Red and white RCA connection) at the back of you TV, and connect the cables from there to your Yamaha receiver.

How do i program for sony cd player

I also have a Sony CD player (CDP-XE330) and I have tried almost every code from the yamaha manual, but without success.
The only codes that yamaha remote supports, are the codes from the list in the yamaha manual. If none works, you are out of luck and the only solution is using the original sony remote (if you have one) or universal remote.

I have recently purchased Logitech Harmony 525 on eBay and now I control all my 7 devices with it without any issues. It is programmed via USB and Logitech has codes for almost 250.000 devices.

Comcast remote

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.
