HP DAT 160 USB Tape Drive has a tape stuck inside. I restarted the server, pressed the eject button but couldn't eject it. The LED on the Drive is Amber. How else can I remove the tape?

You could try opening the drive and delicately untagle the tape (with tweesers) dispose of the tap as it will get stuck again

Tape drive is not identified in the show device command on Open VMS platform. Tapes can be insertedbut cannot be ejected. Tapes seems to be rewinding, but doesnot wind.

Try to press and hold the eject button for 30 seconds.
If issue persists try to reflash the frimware revision with HP diagnostic tool LTT.

Tape not ejecting from drive after 60 secs pressing eject button. I can hear it 'clicking' but no attempt to eject the tape is made. I would be very grateful for some advice regarding what I might do next.

can you detail the model No or compaq spares No for the drive - the clicking makes it sound to me like a DAT but unable to proceed without more info.

If it is a DAT (compaq used both Sony and HP mechs) try disconnecting the scsi cable from the scsi card, rebooting the drive and trying again.

If that doesnt work try a 00pt screwdriver in the manual eject point of the drive and unload manually (about 1000 turns!)

Failing that try www.tape-drive-repair.com as they are pretty good price wise for a repair / exchange

Problem with my hp Dat 160 usb backup tape drive

make sure your backup server is not preventing the media being removed

try rebooting your server, if the tape then can be ejected it is probably your backup software.

If the tape wont eject even after both server and drive have been rebooted it is probably faulty and needs to go for warranty exchange with HP

Stuck Tape Removal

usually a reboot gets it out...hit eject button BEFORE windows starts up...I've seen some get stuck forever... Good luck.
