Lenovo 3000 N100 Power Issue 1. The laptop will not turn on with the ac adapter only. (booting will fail in a few seconds) 2. Sometimes when the laptop is on the adapter will not charge the battery especially in standby. But it will charge the battery when completely turning off the laptop.

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact. Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.
Air cools the hardware components inside the laptop. The cooling fan draws air from the Bottom of the laptop. Dust, dirt, hair, lint, food crumbs,....you name it; is drawn in.
The Processor and graphics chipset, are the two hardware components that give off the most heat. When a Processor overheats, it turns off. (BIOS turns it off) This is a fail safe feature built in. Keeps the Processor from burning up.
ALL power removed, (AC adapter {Charger}, and Battery), and blow-ing air in the intake port, (Fan opening), will NOT repair. At most it is a temporary repair. Kind of like putting a Bandaid on a hole in a dam.
Laptop needs to be partially disassembled, and Q-tips, soft small brush, (Old makeup brush?), plus a can of compressed air for computers; needs to be used.
Also remove the Ram Memory module/s ('Stick'), and clean the gold plated contact pins, with a pencil eraser. Use air to remove the eraser dust, reinstall.

Hi. I think the LCD screen of your laptop needs a replacement because I think the backlight on that LCD is already busted thats why you need to point a flashlight or some sort of light just to see the display. Powerdraining your computer wont work because this already a hardware issue with the LCD, that's why when you switch display with your monitor it works fine. I would suggest replacing the LCD of that laptop or try calling Lenovo tech support if your laptop still under warranty so that they would replace it for free. This is no. to contact for your Lenovo laptop US/Canada 1-800-426-7378, Australia 1-300-880-917. Hope this Helps
Does your laptop works on battery?
Do u mean to say that your adapter burn?
if so please replace the adapter.
There should not any problem related to booting of your computer as far as the Adapter concern.
Hi.. I have a temporary solution to your problem. I had the same problem. Remove the battery and the ac adapter from the laptop. Just reconnect the ac adapter without the battery and switch on the lap. Presto.. Problem solved.. It doesnt power off anymore unless u remove the ac adaptor. Usefull if u hav needed files n want 2 create a backup. Still i havent found out a permanent solution to this problem. I suspect its a motherboard fault
blow a can of air into the fan and sink assembly if you think its a problem due to over heating..
Take out the battery and clean its terminals on the battery and the in the laptop too..
If its restarting automatically then go to My computer>right click> properties> advanced> repair/recovery > uncheck the box for automatic restart and do a clean boot..
I had posted the Aug 19, 2008 comment about having this problem twice. I tried a new universal AC adapter, and it worked! (new adapter is a Targus APA63US) Now battery is charging and laptop also runs on AC alone. So perhaps it's an adapter problem instead of a battery problem. Get one at a store with a good return policy, so if it doesn't work for you, just return it. And if it does work, then happier days. I've had mine about 2 weeks. So far so good, though with what I've learned about Lenovo since having this problem, it wouldn't surprise me if something else goes wrong, or if the damn thing just blew up, ha ha. Also, this adapter set me back about $100 that I really should not have needed to spend! arrgggh ...
Cheers and Best of Luck and hope this helps other frustrated Lenovo owners!
The Charger could be bad, Try replacing that, or let charge, then try to turn on. The laptop might not boot with AC power. kinda stupid but maybe. If that doesn't work, the AC adapter is bad.
