Temperature is controlled by the thermostat. If it won't adjust to your likeing then a replacement may be necessary.

Why is it taking newly placed things days to freeze in my upright freezer? Already frozen things are still rock-hard.

Confirm freezer temperature to be about 0 F or coolder. Suggest if frost free near the air flow if not frost free on lower shelf with cooling coils.

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

these are the usual suspects.

I have a Kelvinator upright freezer model k330uf the bottom section does not work

Sounds like its got blockage.
There is a channel that allows cold air to "fall" into the bottom chamber. There is also a return. Typically the "fall" chamber is choked with either something that fell in and was trapped, frozen solid with ice or algie has grown and closed the hole.
The best thing to do is empty it completely and inspect the drop channel.
Put all your frozen goods in ice chests to keep them from thawing out.
Good Luck.

Just open the chest freezer and the meat is defrosting still plug up the light is still on, do not here a sound

Go buy some charcoal and call some friends.... Sorry. Transfer as much as possible to neighbors freezers. If that's not possible keep the freezer as full as possible. Solids hold their cold much better than air.

Could be many things. Remove the thermostat control and cross the wires. did it go on? Replace the thermostat.
Take a multi-testor and check for power at the motor/ compressor. If yes- the compressor motor is bad. Probably fatal for the unit. If not- why is there no power? Follow the supply wires back up line until you find power. replace the part that has failed.

Good luck

Philco Freezer - replace/repair seal & plastic around top

Good day,
Unlikely you would be able to repair if the inner liner is coming apart.
A local appliance parts house may be able to supply universal gasket to fit to the machine but again, if the inner liner is bad it could prove to be fruitless.

Oddly enough, if you visit supermarkets you will see chest type freezers with no top at all.
Seems like a terrible loss, but it's not.
Cold air falls, hot air rises. When the freezer generates cold air it doesn't spill out the top. It settles into the bottom of the freezer, and stays there. Likewise, warm air rises and has no interest in going into the freezer cavity.
Bottom line. Very little loss.
If appearance doesn't matter, and you can get it close, you should be able to continue to use it.
Your choice, but I thought you would like to know the physics involved here and how it does or doesn't affect you.

Not cold enough

Check the temperature setting to ensure at least the one-half way mark. If o.k., then you could have a refrigerant or compressor-related problem. Contact an appliance service company.

Freezer not getting cold enough to freeze.

First culprit could be a refrigerant leak and needs to be charged. If the evaporator is frozen solid it won't push enough sub zero air to freeze. Call a trusted ac&or repair man
