Static noise coming from headset. The headset has been making this noise for 3 or more days.

Most headphones (wireless) have a tuning wheel that allows you to find your headphone channel pair to base set. It sounds that while checking your foam ear piece you may have moved this dial / wheel. After locating (probably near volume) the control for tune, place headphones on and slowly move control for tuning. You should hear something move control to strongest signal.
your base also has settings switch for channel helpful if you have more then one pair in house, on different TV. Play with both to find best volume.

How do i increase the volume. Even on high it doesn.t have enough volume for our hard to hear parents

I would suggest a couple sets of wireless headphones for older folks. That way the sound is right at their ears. Otherwise you can try hooking up the audio out line of the set to the auxilliary port of a stereo. Good luck.

The cord on my philips shl9600 headphone was recently severed. The cut happened just below the volume control dial. Are these headphones now completely useless, or can the perfect working head set still be...

See my tip on replacing dodgy cables plugs on headphones. Just click my name. I doubt you will be able to save the volume control, unless it has screws to open it.

Menu will not come up. Channel will not change. No remote.

brendee89,
I did not get who the manufacture was of the tv but you may want to see if one or more of
the menue buttons are stuck down on the tv's front panel. This has been a common cause of
problems with Mitsubishi and Sony tv's. It could also cause volume to go up by it's self, no menue
functions, no power up and or no remote control functions to work.
Hope this helps,
Skyman

No sound through the headphones

The way the headphone jack works is:

plug your headphones in and then mute the television using the remote.

While the TV is muted you can still use the volume up and down controls to adjust the volume through the headphones. I find that having the volume at 60-75% is more than loud enough on the headphones.

Just be careful when you unplug the headphones and take the TV off of mute, if your volume levels are still turned up you will be in for a jolt :)

HTS3450 from Phillips, have video but no audio

I have been quite involved with a sound problem in my HTS3450 (search for the topic "sound in only 3 channels"), and I learned that when you are in the setup menu the speaker volume will be greyed out if there is a disc in the tray...remove the disc, wait for the "disc loading" dialogue to switch to "no disc", the try accessing the setup menu again. Other than that I have no advise if you once had proper function after moving the system. Check out my experiences with the cable connecting the sub to the DVD/receiver in my postings. Good luck. It seems your device is thinking it has no speakers connected, reconnect teh cable between the device and the subwoofer and make sure it is connected properly.Als chekc all speakercables if they are connected properly and correct (+ on + and - on -).

Problems changing volume & sound horrible

Your player is flipped. It thinks that it's connected to an external device, and acts as if it in line out output. When outputing to line out, you really don't have volume control, and you hear it right with the headphones, you would be missing some amplification. Try to reverse the actions that choose line output: Press and hold BACK. The Home menu appears. Press the arrows to select the settings icon(looks like a suitcase), and then press play/pause. Press the up/down buttons to select Audio Output and press play/pause. Now you should see "line out" selected. move the arrows to another setting - headphones if available, and press play/pause. Now unless something is really wrong with your player it should work. If it doesn't, use your warranty if valid, send for repair. Good luck
