How to disable MAC filtering

MAC (Multimedia Access Control) addresses are unique sets of codes assigned to electronic devices that identify the devices on a network. MAC filters work by either allowing or denying only specific MAC addresses. MAC filters are a great security measure; however, if your network needs to be open to public or guests, or you're adding and removing devices often, then you should consider turning off MAC filtering.

EditMethod One of Three:
Wireless Routers (Windows)

  1. 1 Open the Command Prompt. You can access it from the Start menu, or by pressing ? Win+R and typing cmd.

  2. 2 Type .ipconfig and press? Enter.

  3. 3 Find your active network connection. There may be several connections listed in the readout, and you may have to scroll up to find your active connection.

  4. 4 Look for the .Default Gatewayentry. This is the address for your router. Write it down.

  5. 5 Open a web browser. You can access your router's configuration page from any web browser as long as your computer is connected to the network.

  6. 6 Enter the .Default Gateway address into the browser's address bar.

  7. 7 Log in with your admin account.Routers are protected with an admin login and password. Check your router's documentation or look up the model online to find the default login information.
    • If you can't figure out how to log in to your router, you can reset it by pressing and holding the Reset button on the back for about 30 seconds. After the router restarts, you will be able to log in with the default admin information.
    • Most default logins use "admin" as the username, and then "admin", "password", or a blank field as the password.

  8. 8 Open the "Advanced" section and look for "MAC Filtering", "Access Control", or something similar. Actually defining where the "MAC Filtering" section is located is very difficult, as the location and labeling is different for every router. Generally, you can find the "MAC Filtering" or "Access Control" settings in the "Advanced" section, though it may also be found in the "Security" or "Wireless Settings" sections.
    • Not all routers use MAC address filtering. Some router's limit access based on static IP addresses assigned to each device.

  9. 9 Disable MAC filtering. Again, the wording and location will vary depending on the router, but you will generally be able to select a "Disable" option to turn off MAC filtering.
    • This may be a checkbox, a button or a selection that you can make.

  10. 10 Save your changes. Click the "Apply" or "Save" button to save your changes to the router settings. Your router will apply the changes, which may take a few moments.
    • If you are configuring your router over a wireless connection, you may be logged out when settings changes are saved.

My ipod could not connect to the internet

Hi suzettemaica,

I see that you are having issue connecting your iPod to your Wireless Network.

I believe that your Wireless Network has a Network key or a Password on it for your security right, to be able to get your iPod conencted wirelessly you will need to disable the Wireless security because mobile phone do not have same security that a Wireless Router would have once you have disabled the Wireless Security of your Router then you can connect your iPod.

To get security on your Wireless you will need to enable the MAC Address filtering, this will be an alternative to a wireless security on Routers.

You mentioned you have a Belkin wireless Router, you did not mention what model but that is OK, I will try to give details as simple as I can for the wireless issue and the MAC Address Filtering.

Click on this Link this will give you a basic on the Router settings, but first we will need to find out what your Router's Default Gateway is.

To find out your Router Default Gateway you can click on start then type CMD on the white bar and type in CMD right click on it then select run as administrator.

This should open a new window DOS to be exact, you will see C:\ with a blinking cursor and most probably you computer name after C:\ then type in ipconfig then press enter , a list should show look for default gateway .

Once you have your default gateway open up IE or any Browser that you have and type the Default gateway on the Address Bar then press enter this should Open a page of you Routers Settings.

now you can click on this Link to see what you see from your router or you can just basically use what you have from your router which is exactly where your settings will be. Link

Oh yeah for your Router I am not sure if it has a user name or a password since I did not get what Model you have, but you can try to leave the user name blank and the password blanks as well to get in which is a default with Belkin.

Look for Wireless then under should be security click on security then you will see security mode and a drop down select None to disable the password on the Router then click Apply Changes.

Now for the MAC Address you should see Filtering then below is Mac Address just click on it then it will be asking Mac Addresses of all the devices that you need to connect on the Wireless network to be able to register them in the Router for access to the Internet the Mac Address can also be found by goin into DOS and doing the IPCONFIG for you iPod you can just connect to the router with out the Mac Address filtering first then go in the Router settings you should see the Mac Address of the devices connected to the Belkin Router.

I hope that i was clear enough for this.

Have a nice day,

F7D3302v1 installed eventually but Belkin Setup screen appears every time someone logs on to wireless network. Please Help ! Thanks, SP

Routers include a security feature that allows you to specify which computers or wireless devices are allowed on your wireless network.
This feature is called "MAC Address Control" and only works with wireless devices.

Setup steps:
You can normally find your device's MAC address printed on the back or within its software interface. Please refer to your device's manual for more information.

If you have a Belkin adapter, you can find the MAC address on the product label.

  1. Open a web browser on the computer.
  2. In the address bar of the web browser, type http://192.168.2.1.
  3. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.

  4. Click on "MAC Address Filtering" under Firewall in the menu on the left.

  5. Here you can enter the MAC addresses of each device that you want to allow or deny.

I want to connect my phone to the wi fi on my pc but it will not connect because I have a mac filter. Now I can't find the set up cd to the belin router which gives me the address to go to on the web to...

You dont need the disc for that.
you will need to open the set up interface of the router and there you can change the wireless settings of the router. all you need to do is , you can disable the wireless MAC filter or add the wireless MAC address of the phone.
Click Here for more info on how to open the set up page of the router and change the settings

I'm trying to set up a new laptop to my belkin router

When you first setup a wireless router you need to connect the wireless router to the computer with a LAN cable.
Then you open a browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and on the address bar you type the IP configuration address of the wireless router eg. for Belkin wireless router it is http://192.168.2.1
Enter the default login name and password.
You should change the password and you should setup WAP or WAP2 encryption (WAP2 is the strongest encryption) and change the SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
For further wireless protection enable MAC address filtering. The MAC address of the wireless card is entered in the router MAC address filter table, which allows only the wireless card with this MAC address to connect to the router.
The wireless card on the computer needs to be configured with the wireless router's settings. The LAN cable can be removed and the computer communicates wirelessly with the router.
