The heat pump stays on to 20 deg (outdoors) and the burners will not work till the temp is under that leaving the house at a max 65 deg, I beleave the heat pump should true off around 30 -35 deg ? then the furnce should run after that. How can we make this change? we have a ACONT800 Control sat an American standard heat pump with a american standard 2 stage furnce.

HFC-134a ? Critical pressure is 588.9 a . With a 93 LL temp and 575 head, I would suspect 1. Air in system or 2. Ref. has gone critical.
With a 110 psig suction/85 deg.F and a LL temp of 93 deg.F/125 psig

Find a reputable HVAC contractor to do a room by room analysis with heat and cooling loads calculated and units sized and duct requirements and compare to what you have.

The air not being cold is not necessarily an indicator of anything malfunctioning. High efficiency units for instance don't produce cold air.

Since you have had someone look at it, the duct work may be collapsed which restricts air flow or uninsulated which warms up the supply air. Either one is a possibility. Any Cox Cable guys been stompin' around your attic lately? Wouldn't be the first time.

Usually, when the air coming out of the vents is not cold enuf it's because your freon level is low. Probably leaking, but they can usually recharge the freon and it will work for a while. Try another repair company and see if they can recheck the freon level.

We have a high efficiency unit and it produces cold air, so I don't know what previous poster is referring to. Air conditioners are supposed to blow cold air.

Sorry, to tell ya but it is normal if the outdoor temperatures are much below 45 degrees. Below 45 degrees there is little heat outdoors for the heat pump to grab to heat the home so it will run 24/7 and blow cool or cold air. Below 45 the temp of the air coming out the vent will decline and you will get no heat from the heat pump itself as you near freezing.

Your emergency heat or auxiliary heat is electric strip heat. But it only kicks in during normal operation if the temp in the house drops 3 degrees below the setting. (some tstats if can be 5 deg.) Otherwise the heat pump will blow cool or cold air the rest of the time if it is too cold out.

To prevent it from running all the time and blowing cold it is recommended if the temp outside is falling below 45 degrees you should just switch to the emergency heat setting, which shuts the pump outdoors off, and just heat with the electric.

But if there is no heat outside the heat pumps will blow cold. They are the cheapest and most efficient forms of heat but only as long as the outdoor temp is above that 45 deg..

I'm guessing that if you haven't experienced this you live in some place with moderate winter temperatures like in Northern Florida and rarely get very cold winter temps like the freezing you have seen there recently.

It will likely blow much warmer when the outdoor temp rises.

First, you need to get the spec sheet for that unit from www.goodmanmfg.com, go to bottom, click on Partner link, then put in goodman for id, dealer for pass, go to InfoFinder in the Toolkit. under model, put CPLE, under lit type dropdown put spec sheet. Click on the RED SS number in the fourth column. In the spec sheet, print out the Expanded Heating Data sheet for your CPLE30. It shows the outdoor ambient temp, follow that column to the bottom and it shows the pressures you should have. They are very very close it unit is working correctly. It also has a DeltaT for airflow. So, now you can put stat at 1 degree differential so only heat pump comes on and check temp rise and pressures. If both pressures are low, you have lost some charge. As for heat strips, turn stat up 2 or more degrees or put it in Emergency heat. Then the strips should come on....sequencer may delay stages. Then you need to use amp clamp to see if individual heat elements are pulling amps. In E heat, you need to go online and get a CFM/Kw temp rise chart. It will show you what your temp rise from return to supply should be at your cfm with the amount of heat you have..i.e. 10kw, 15kw, etc. If it is cold out and your heat pump is running with no aux heat, the temp rise will get lower as the outdoor temp falls, so alone it will not be able to keep up.

Sounds like some of the elements are not working. You being in Florida they may not have put very many elements in. It was 61 degrees last week. I know because I'm a Dolphin Fan. You will need a current sensing meter to check the elements.

Get the charge tested, check the sub-cooling across the outdoor coil.

Push temp up until it reaches max temp 550f then hold bake button in until it beeps.. --sign will appear, adjust temp from -35 to +35

Yes. The defrost cycle of a heat pump is actually turning on your airconditioning to heat up the condenser to thaw it out. During this cycle your electric strip heaters "should" be adequate enough to compensate for the a/c being on. At about 30 - 34 degrees outdoor temp there is not enough heat in the air to to adequately heat your home with the heat pump only. Some technitions will use an outdoor thermostat to turn off the heat pump when it is under 34 degrees outside. If you are to cold when its under 34 degrees intall more electric strip heaters.. But if you do this your electric bill may go up significantly.

It sounds as if you you have a low charge of refrigerant, r22. When the unit comes on outside, the outdoor coils become the lowside, there is a low pressure switch that is tripping out contactor protecting the compressor.

heat pumps generate heat from compressing freon and take a while to generate enough heat to be useful. never expect robust heat from a pump like an oil burner or a gas furnace, but they do heat great and are cheaper to operate. do this . if you are still using an old mercury bulb stat change it to a digital one. this will hold an exact temperature and time off between cycles will be less and the indoor coil will stay warm between short cycles, with an old mercurry stat you set it at 70 and it may run up to 73 and stay off till 68. thats a long off cycle and when call resumes the coil has gotten cold and has to start all over again. also dont wait till it gets cold to run a heat pump. turning it on and off as it gets cold is not correct. you should select a temp ,usually 71 for heat and set it and leave it on to do its thing.you may want to check the charge. hot gas discharge is usually 100 degreees hotter than outdoor temps after 15 minutes run time. for example if its 40 outside the big freon line outside thats insulated should be about 140 degrees. or you can run it 15 minutes and grab it with your hand . it should be almost uncomfortable to hold any length of time. careful some get quite hot. you also have the option of hooking up the electric strip to automatically come on if you push the stat up 2 degrees hotter than the temp in the room. that way you get heat pump and strips till temp gets within 2 degrees of set point and the strips shut off and pump maintains.good luck
