I would definitely recommend buying some proper straps as this is by far the safest way to raise the scooter. Make sure you get at least 2 straps so that you can position one towards the front and one towards the rear of the scooter to make sure you have an even load. If I were you, I would lay the straps down onto the floor and extend them out. Make sure the spacing is right for the straps. Then drive the scooter over the straps so it is much easier for you to be able to the wrap the straps around the scooter. Make sure you don't trap any delicate items in the straps, for example mirrors and levers. I don't know if you have thought about it but would there be a possibility of getting a tail lift for your vehicle? That would make it so much easier as all you would have to do is drive the scooter onto the tail lift and then raise it, no need for straps at all then.
