The head of the mixer is vibrating (shaking) a lot when mixing. It does this so much that I feel as though I need to hold onto it when it's mixing. If I turn it on without the bowl and just run the beater, it runs smoothly. But when resting on the bowl bottom all 3 of the beaters cause the shaking. this has been going on for about 2 weeks and so we have limited its use as much as is possible.

You are probably going to have to remove the top housing and look and listen while it is running. Does it lose drive when it is being noisy? You need to remove the back cover, the silver band with Kitchen Aid on it and that will expose the 4 screws holding the housing on. Remember fingers and tools OUT while it is plugged in or running. I can't be a lot more help to you, we don't have that model in NZ.

You have not supplied a model number and the bowl lift models are not all the same. A couple of items you could check, make sure that the bowl retaining clip that engages with the dimple on the pedestal side of the bowl is not broken. Make sure any bolts/screws holding the pedestal to the base or the pedestal to the motor are tight. Even if you supply a model number I can't think of anything else to look at unless the handle is not lifting the bowl up tight enough. I think on some models the arm holds the carrier up with some pressure which would help stop the wobbles.

The Planetary plate comes attached to the shaft from the factory. It is not supposed to get
loose and come apart but it often does due to the mixer's vibrations and the user's constant
attaching and removals of the flat beater, wire whip or dough hook onto the beater shaft.
Try to remove the Planetary plate first : Gently rock it from side to side while pulling on it
to separate from the shaft. Notice the groves on both the shaft and inside the planetary
housing. That is how they are attached to one another at the factory (just friction, no screws
or pins). Now for a permanent solution:
Take a trip to Home Depot or Ace hardware and buy the J-B Industro Weld Compound
(Not the 5 minute type). Mix an equal amount from both tubes (Black and Red). Use a Q-Tip
and apply a thin layer of the mixture on both the shaft (grooved section) and inside the
planetary housing. Now re-attach the planetary plate to the shaft. Use a long strip of duct tape
to hold the plate in place (to prevent it from falling back out). Allow the epoxy to dry overnight
or at least for 8 hours.
The Planetary assembly is now permanently attached to the shaft of the mixer.

Try this:
1. Lift the mixer head, tilting it back.
2. Locate the large silver screw under the head, where it connects to the base. It will have a slot in it, for a standard slotted screwdriver.
3. Tighten the screw up.

If you raise the head of your mixer, and look under the raised part, you'll see a silver screw head with a slot for a standard bladed screwdriver. Tighten that screw, and that should do it.

Tip the machine upside down on a towel, centralise the hinge pin and tighten the grub screw that locks it into place. This is right up inside the pedestal, there is only one screw there to see.
Now stand it up and fit the mixing bowl & flat paddle, turn the machine on speed one, if the paddle is tinging on the bowl then we now need to set the head height. Turn the motor off.
Raise the motor up and from the front of the machine look in by where the motor hinges on the pedestal. You can see one screw head there. If it's tinging the bowl then you need to turn the screw anti clockwise enough so that the paddle no longer tings on the bowl.
Once it's stopped tinging put it onto max speed and make sure it still clears at high speed, if not turn the screw until it stops tinging. That's it.

If you tip the entire unit on it's side you'll find a screw holding the pin described above in place. Take a flat head screwdriver and tighten that baby up. You'll be all set.

Hi, Mixing Dough is tough. the neading hook really works hard and the pin will like to wander out on the left side of the mixer "right side if your facing the it". What I did was find an smaller elastic band and with the pin sticking out a 1/3 of an inch from the opposite side from which it wanders out.

loop the band on it as many times as possible so its stays on tight . with this you now have a bumper and as the pin vibrates to wander out the elastic bumper will gently keep pulling it back during the vibration cycle keeping it in check .

Works perfect but still inspect the pin and bumper before each use.
