Hi My GE Monogram Fridge isn't cooling very fast. It takes forever for it to get to 37 F. The freezer works fine. I have noticed frost build up in the fridge (not freezer) near the back (there is a vent or a panel there). When I blow dry it, it melts the ice and then works fine for a few days. It is a sidby side fridge. Any ideas what might cause this, could this be a problem with the sealed refrigeration unit?

Sorry to hear about your problem.

Sounds like you have a defrost issue. Hence your unit is not defrosting. All of this apply's if your freezer side has ice on it. If not. you have other issues, this does sound funny, but this is why your refrigerator side is warm, or not cooling.

Here is a list of some things that can go wrong.
1. Defective heat coil
2. Defective defrost timer
3. Defective defrost sensor
4. Defective Fan
5. Defective compartment inlet damper (on some models)

You should call a service company to resolve your issue.

My 5 year old GE GSH22JSRSS Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator recently stopped cooling. I noticed a build up of frost on the freezer, so unplugged the fridge and let the ice melt away. After this,...

The problem you describe is that your defrost circuit has failed. The fridge should stop the compressor periodically and turn on the defrost heater to melt the frost buildup. Since the frost in building up on your coils, the fan can't blow the cold air into the fridge compartment. It defrost is controlled by a module that turns on the heater. Most of these failures have to do with the defrost heating element burning out. It can be replaced by someone who has some mechanical ability.

The coil and heater is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the panel in the back. You can obtain parts from appliance repair outlet or online like appliancepartspros.com or repairclinic.com.

GE Refrigerator Not Cooling (TFX27ZPBGWW)

The unit isnt defrosting hence the ice on the back panel. Either your bimetal thermostat is open or the heating element is shot. Most GEs they come together so happy hunting. Those parts are behind the frosting panel
