I use my dell monitor as a second screen to my laptop for music.Occasionally when left for several minutes untouched the monitor appears to go into stanby mode - i.e. the screen goes blank and the power button indicates `yellow` - my laptop still running as normal. When this occurs I don`t know how to restore the screen. Have tried restarting laptop but this does`nt work. Lefdt everything switched off overnight, started up today ok - monitor working as normal - any ideas ?

Go into power settings and set it to never go to sleep. and even change the settings on the monitor to sleep too.

SOURCE: blinking monitor power button and flashing image

I buy and sell these monitors (Dell E17FP) the problem is with the transisters (Q739, Q740, Q759, Q760) they short out and the monitor will just blink on and off. You have to desolder them and test them with a simple battery and light circuit. The reason they blow is because of the dirty solder joints by the transformers. If only on pair of backlights work the problem maybe transisters Q751, Q743. I home this answers your questions.

SOURCE: Dell E173FPc monitor worked fine yesterday.

Hello,

The power supply in the unit has died. This is a very common problem with this series of monitor after 2-3 years of use. If you can solder then you should be able to do the repair yourself. Check out our step by step repair guide posted on our site at: www.ccl-la.com Our guide gives parts values and location information as well as how to open the unit up. If you don't feel like doing the repair we also offer repair services, see our web site for details.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

it is repairable but for the cost of parts and labor you would be better of getting a new 22" LCD monitor
for the problem I would suspect the fly-back transformer or power supply

thanks for rating

I have a dell inspiron laptop, and a dell monitor hooked up to it, i turn on the monitor and it is very bright for about half a second then it becomes very dark, so dark that it looks like it turned off,...

Does the fault appear on the laptop screen aswell? It appears by your description that the fault is only on the external monitor. If the screen comes on for a moment and then goes blank as described, then this appears to be an invertor fault. It is very common among laptop and tft screens and requires the invertor inside the panel to be replaced / repaired. Simply plug the screen into another computer to confirm.

Monitor distorting in screen halves after warmup

It probably isn't worth repairing as the cost will exceed what you would spend on replacing it.

Blurry resolution and screen smear until it has been running for several minutes

Check the video card first, if you have another vidoe card try it. If that does not shore up the problem the monitor would be a issue, and now a day monitors are dirt cheap even for the LCD monitors so I would look into buying on of those if your inclined to do so.

Make sure you set up your laptop to display to a second screen. Depending on your Operating system, go to your display properties and go to the settings tab. Then click on the second monitor and enable it.

Viewsonic VA712b 17 " flat screen monitor

Realheadache, Unusual problem, it could be the resolution and refresh rate setting your PCs video card is currently set at. I don?t know if this will fix your problem but its worth a try: - Now go to your PC with the old monitor connected, right click anywhere on the desktop. - Left click Properties from the box that appears. - When the Display Properties box appears click on the Settings tab. - Make note of the screen resolution. - Change the screen resolution to 1024 x 768. - Click on the Advanced button in the lower right hand corner. - In the next box that appears click on the Monitor tab. - In the Monitor settings section of this page record the value of the Screen refresh rate. Then change it to 60 Hertz. - Close this and the Display Properties box by click on the OK button. - Now try connecting your new monitor. Let us know if this helps and as always please don?t forget to rate this posting.
