I have a Panasonic Viera TXP50C2B TV and Panasonic Surround sound system SC-PT480. I have connected an HDMI cable between them and although I can get DVD's to play perfectly (sound & picture) I cannot get the TV to play through the Surround sound system without disconnecting the HDMI cable and using a Scart lead between the two. I have lost the manual for the TV but have tried playing with the configuration settings to no Avail. Please can you help me ??

I had the same problem, so i contacted panasonic, I am including the email they sent me.


For connections of audio, so that you can hear all tv audio through the
surround system, connect either an optical audio cable or red & white
analog audio cables from the tv to the home theater. If you are using
optical audio, there is a plug on back of tv labeled for digital audio
output and an input on the surround sound system. If you plan on using
analog red and white, use the PROG OUT red and white output jacks on the
back of the tv to the AUX input on the home theater.

For video connections, to get HD you will need to be using either HDMI or
Component cables. HDMI is the cable that will provided 1080p signal (the
best HD signal), but if the source does not output 1080p, then your tv
will not display 1080p. Most cable boxes output at 1080i or 720p when on
HD stations. This signal still provides great picture quality, but HDMI is
not needed to get these HD signals. You can use component cables for your
cable box and the DVD player output to the tv for video. HDMI might give
you a slightly better picture quality but the signal will be the same.

To make the connection, you will want to connect from the cable box to the
tv (component or hdmi). Also from the home theater system to the tv using
hdmi or the video cables from component (red, blue, & green cables).

hi i just bought the panasonic sc-pt460 and had the same problem, i connected it to my 37" LG lcd tellevision but couldnt get no sound from the tv, tried what they said in the manual but no joy , then i came across a scart lead in my cupboard which has two audio jacks and a scart plug on the other end which has a switch on it saying IN/OUT i connected it to av1 on the telly and switched the scart to out. hay presto, and to think i was just about to send it back glad i never what a sound system

It's possible that you have the wrong type of HDMI cable. You need one that has Audio Return if you want to feed your Home Theater system with audio from the TV. There are several types of HDMI cable,some with audio return and some without. The two basic types (not including Ethernet) are described below - you need the High Speed version, which does have Audio Return.

HDMI Standard This is the most basic HDMI standard which all cables have to meet. Cable should contain all the connections required for HD transmission, and have to deliver at least a resolution of 720p, (Video mode of 1280 x 720 meaning 720 Horizontal lines). These cables do not contain an Ethernet connection, or audio return.

HDMI High Speed HDMI High Speed cables will support higher resolutions of 1080p. This means at least 1080 Horizontal lines, and cables rated at this specification may well support high resolutions of up to 4096 x 2160 (2160 Horizontal lines), check individual cables specifications for this data. Cables in this specification will also support a data transfer speed of 10.2Gbs (not to be confused with ethernet data speeds which are different), and a clock speed of 320Mhz. These cables do not contain an Ethernet connection, but do include an Audio Return Channel.
