We just purchased the tomtom XXL 550 and cannot get rid of the scrolling ads/tips. Very frustrating when you have to keep tapping the screen to see the map. I saw on this site that XL has the same problem but the options are different. Any advice would be appreciated. Sanity is fading fast!

No where for free that is legal, you can pay and download the latest via tomtom home

I suggest you go to your nearest car electrical expert to check your car if there is problem with your car electrical connections..

I just plug the computer cord to the TomTom, and it downloads from their website.

Favourites are places / addresses that you want to keep on file.

To add an address to your list of Favourites ...

From the Main Menu, tap Add Favourite.

You can then select the location of the Favourite from: an address (that you enter), your Home, or a recent destination, a point of interest, your current position/location, or a position that you tap on the map browser.

Hi, if its updating with 3G, 3G is very poor at the moment & very unreliable & slow.

1. In driving view, tap the map to open the Main Menu.
2. Locate the Preferences icon and tap it. Depending on software version, it looks like a wrench or a gear.
3. Cycle through the menu pages until you see an icon with three flags (UK, German, Dutch) and tap it.
4. From the list, select your preferred language.

remove some files from map folder example: cspeech_FRA.dat,cspeech_*.dat

To change the language,

1. Tap the screen to bring up the main menu,
2. Tap change preferences,
3. Tap the arrow in the bottom right corner until you see change language,
4. Tap change language,
5. Follow the instruction on the screen to confirm the language of your choice,
6. Choose a voice.

That should do the job.

While in drive view, tap the screen on the blue status bar, on the GPS signal strength. A new screen appears showing the battery charge level at the top right corner.
