If you have a dvd recorder, you can hook up the cam to a recorder if it has rca jacks on the end of the cable. Or if your handycam has a memory card slot, record straight to memory card or transfer memory to memory card, then place it in a computer with an sd memory card slot.
win vista and win 7doesn't support usb streaming. the usb driver for this model would not be compatible with your computer's OS. although, you were able to download PMB still this wouldn't work, it's basically an alternative software that you can use with the newer OS. still the device driver would not be installed. and you would get a message that "ilink connection is not detected". the reason you get that is bec the camcorder and the software is intended for use with the dv (ilink or ieee1394) connection. so if your computer has an ieee1394 card and you have a compatible ilink cable, then your good to go,it should be a plug-and-play connection (no drivers required). all you need then would be a video capturing software (like win moviemaker) to transfer videos from tape to PC. hope this helps. thanks :)
The dcr-hc38 is a minidv camcorder that usea a minidv tape. There is no "delete" on tape camcorders. You simply record over the tape. Or if you want to get rid of a recorded section on the tape you dont want, find out the exact minutes/seconds display of the section you dont want and just record over the section with the lens cap on. To fully edit the tape, you will need to upload to your computer and use the editing software that came with your camcorder.
The Firewire driver is already bundled with Windows XP.
Software for viewing, editing and transferring: DCRHC52 is compatible with Windows Movie Maker & Apple iMovie, meaning you can usually begin editing your footage straight away usingthe software already installed on your PC.
You need "Picture Package" software supplied with Sony camera to transfer video files in to PC. If you have software CD, please install it and connect your camrea with USB port.
If you dont have CD, check following Sony official weblink to download USB Driver, though it will not give you proper control on file transfer procedure yet it do help you to connect camera with PC.
