I have a Fridgidaire FMV156DCG (3 years) and all of a sudden it stopped heating; the light comes on and the timer will go; I just don't hear the "microwave hum you normally hear" and it does not spin. Can you help? I heard about a reset button; just can't find the manual nor online yet.

No reset button.

This very common problem is a bad bottom door switch, or that switch's mount.

Possibly is overheating. check all of your vents to make sure that they are not blocked. I have seen some that the vent holes in back were completely covered with lint, because that is where the microwaves pulled the air into the unit to cool the magnetron. If your vents are blocked it cannot pull that air and it will cause a thermostat mounted on the magnetron to over heat and kick it off line. There is also a chance that the thermostat mentioned above is going bad as well. Hope this helps!

My microwave doesn't work, but display works

I would strongly consider replacing the microwave oven, prices have dropped considerably. The problem you are describing is in the keypad controller board.

IF this is the Fridgidaire FMC156DC The bottom door microswitch may be the problem. Looking at the number of posts, it seems to be an issue with this machine. Have a qualified tech look at it.

It could be a number of things, Burnt connections between the magnetron, Capacitor, Diode and transformer, Heater connections loose or burnt, Transformer, Capacitor Diode or Magnetron US. You need to strip it and find out if you are getting about 2000volts to the Mag, Are you getting approx 5volts across the heater terminals?? NOTE that the 2000 Volts can remain in the cap indefinitely and the voltage is LETHAL. IT WILL KILL YOU if you don`t take precautions. Ian

IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS RANGING FROM DIODES TO CAPACITORS TO YOUR MAGNATRON OR THERMOSTAST OR TRANSFORMERS. IT'S DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE WITHOUT SEEING THIS MICROWAVE. YOU MAY BE BETTER OFF GETTING YOURSELF A DIFFERENT ONE.

Sharp Microwave R-520L stopped working

My parents had the same problem. It turned out that a switch went bad. When you take the case off, there are 3 switches where the door latches. The bottom switch went bad. It is an Omron D3V-16G-3C25 switch.

Microwave not working, please suggest

Your magnetron tube has failed. According to the warranty on the Profile Series microwave ovens, the magnetron is covered for 5 years from the date of purchase, but labor is not included. I would call GE Customer Service and when they ask for the model number (which begins with JVM) and the serial number, be sure to give the date of purchase as the date you closed on your house. If they insist upon charging you for a service call and labor, I would call my builder's Customer Service Department and demand (very nicely) that they intervene with GE to waive the service and labor charges. That worked for me (Lennar Homes).
