Amana ARB2557CB refrigertator. Was not cooling though fan was running. Unplugged for 10 minutes and plugged back in, fan no longer started. Replaced overload relay (has burnt plastic smell) and run capacitor. Now still no fan. Lights are on though.
Problem solved. Everything is working after I left it plugged in for a few more minutes. I didn't leave it plugged in long enough to allow it to exit some mode when the fans are turned off. I was too hasty in my conclusion that something was still wrong. Hope this tip helps someone else too.Problem solved. Everything is working after I left it plugged in for a few more minutes. I don't have a wiring diagram. All I changed was the overload relay and capacitor. Would a refrigerator typically have fuses or other devices to reset? Any other suggestions?I don't have a wiring diagram. All I changed was the overload relay and capacitor. Would a refrigerator typically have fuses or other devices to reset? Any other suggestions?

Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out thelast two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...
You model if the ARB1950C has a defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment and behind the temperature control panel. Need to see if you can manualy turn the timer clockwise until the compressor stops. During that time of 25 minutes the freezer should be in defrost. I believe your timer needs replaced based on how you explained what is happening. The part number for your timer is 67001036 and can be found at the links below. If it stays longer that 25 minutes then it's sticking in the defrost section of the defrost timer and will need to be replaced. If your refrigerator does not restart after about 25 minutes then slowly turn the timer through the opening in the plastic cover. There may be a plug covering the hole to make the hole not so visible. If you should have problems fell free to let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze [email protected]
There are a few things that it could be. Do you mean the evaparator coil? This would be the coil on the inside of the freezer, the condenser is outside the unit. If the evap. coil is freezing, you could have to much in your freezer blocking air flow. You could also have a evap. fan not running. Check the owner's manual for the location of the defrost timer, it could be bad. The thermostat needs to be checked and set so that it is at a reasonable level. One last thing to check would be the condensate drain. Make sure the drain is not plugged or the line is not plugged. Good luck.
Have you checked the Heater element for the defrost to see if it's good? It sounds like the coils inside your freezer are freezing over into a solid block of ice which in turn will cause it to stop cooling.....efficiently. When you leave the unit unplugged, it gives the unit a chance to thaw and it work properly until the coils freeze over again. If heater is not the problem then Defrost Thermostat probably is. Both located in back of Freezer.
hi
Step 1: If the compressor runs all the time, turn the control knob to the OFF position. If the compressor still runs, unplug the unit, then pull off the control knob and remove the screws holding the thermostat in place. Pull out the thermostat and remove either the red or the blue wire from its terminal. Plug in the unit. If the compressor doesn't run, the thermostat is faulty. Replace it with a new thermostat.
Step 2:If the compressor runs after the wire is removed from its terminal, there is probably a short circuit somewhere in the unit's wiring. In this case, don't try to fix the problem yourself; call a professional service person.
Step 3:If the refrigerator or freezer runs but the box doesn't cool, unplug the unit and remove the thermostat with a screwdriver. Disconnect both wires from the thermostat. Tape the ends of the wires together with electrical tape, and plug in the appliance. If the refrigerator starts and runs normally, the thermostat is faulty. Replace it with a new one of the same type. Connect the new thermostat the same way the old one was connected.
Step 4:If the freezer compartment is normal but the refrigerator box doesn't cool, set the dials that control both compartments to mid-range. Remove these knobs (they're usually friction-fit). Then unscrew the temperature control housing; you'll see an air duct near the control. Replace the knob on the freezer thermostat and turn the control to the OFF position. Open the refrigerator door and look closely at the air duct. If this duct doesn't open wider in about ten minutes, the control is faulty. Replace the control with a new one of the same type. Connect the new control the same way the old one was connected.
