Go to the device manager on your computer, and see that the driver for that mic is turned on or checked.

SOURCE: I've got a new Blue

I had the same problem with my PC and went to http://www.asio4all.com/ where I downloaded and installed the driver and it worked!! I found the site by reading this FAQ (see below) at Blue under Snowball.
(But I still have the same problem with my MAC).

"If you should experience any problems getting the program to recognize the mic, Adobe recommends the following: If the device does not allow you to record, then your microphone is not being detected as a valid input device in Premiere Elements. You can use an open source program called ASIO4ALL, which is a device driver that essentially wraps existing WDM devices, like USB microphones, as ASIO-compatible sound devices. Use the following steps to utilize this tool:

  1. Quit Premiere Elements.
  2. Visit the following web page and download the latest available version of ASIO4ALL: http://www.asio4all.com/
  3. Install the software, and restart the system if asked to do so by the installer.
  4. Make certain that your microphone is plugged in.
  5. Launch Premiere Elements. Go to the 'Edit->Preferences..>Audio Hardware' menu option. For the Default Device, choose the ASIO4ALL option. Click the ASIO Settings button, then select your microphone from the list of devices, click Exit, and then click OK on the Preferences dialog. Close and then restart Premiere Elements."

Hi.

Go to Mac audio settings, select and set the input device and the mixer to the same device (your mic),

Set the Mixer/Mux/Lin, line must be set to the be microphone. Ensure that line volume is up.
Check if direct sound is selected in Mac settings, in some case you need to uncheck it.

Let me know in case that does not fix the problem, I will have a look to see if there is any issue that can be related to the Snownball.

I want to use more than one microphone for a teleconference

Buy a USB mixer that would plug into the Mac, then plug the Snowball into the mixer. Make sure before you buy the mixer that it will have USB inputs for the Snowball, as most use professional XLR's. The output of a USB based mic like a Snowball is very minute to start with, as USB just does not put out the voltage.

I got a blue snowball microphone and had 2 problems. On XP, I can get it recognized and record stuff (I use Acid Pro) but while I am recording (with headphones) I dont hear anything in the head phones....

Thanks for purchasing the Snowball! The problem doesn't look directly related to the mic (as it's purely USB) and monitoring is dependent on the capabilities of the recording software being used. For direct monitoring, we recommend GarageBand and Audacity.

Trust headset HS2900 suitable for apple macbook?

On the MacBook there is no microphone port, if you look closely, it is not a microphone plug, it is a line in plug. Line in cannot record sounds from a microphone without amplification. What I would recommend doing is purchasing this adapter: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186035&cm_re=usb_audio-_-12-186-035-_-Product- With this adapter, you plug your headset and mic into it and then it plugs into the USB port on your MacBook. Then you can just unplug it from the USB port when you are done.
