No water through group head

I recently cleaned my rancilio silvia by backflushing. However, I forgot to flush the system afterwards (the boiler was on) and I think the cleaning powder has baked somewhere and caused a blockage because no water comes through the group head. I can get water out the steam wand OK. Is there a product that will dissolve? Not sure just descaling will work because there isn't an end to end flow. Anybody got any suggestions how I can remedy short of taking the think apart?

I have the same problem although it was not caused by backflushing as I have never backflushed my machine. When you turn on the brew switch, the water gets sucked in the inlet pipe but get pumped straight back out the outlet pipe back into the water tank. No water is coming out the group head.

Hi
More than likely your 3 way valve is stuck. It is located behind the front panel and when the 2 screws are removed it slides to the right. Unplug your machine before working on it. The 3 way valve is on the left and you can remove the dispersion tube on the bottom(unscrews) 14mm nut holds the solenoid on and you can slide the solenoid down the shaft. The big nut at the top of the shaft will unscrew and there you will fin the solenoid inside with a big spring. If its not stuck it will slide out and you probably need a new 3 way valve, but more than likely its stuck. Some times just tapping the nut on something hard will unstick the solenoid. Clean good and reinstall.

Proper way to backflush a Rancilio Silvia.

Rancilio does not recommend backflushing the Silvia. Sometimes we have to.
First remove the brew head screen. Clean the brew head screen and reinstall. The proper way to back flush is to use a blind basket. Place some Cafiza, or Joe Glow (espresso machine detergent, a level teaspoon) in the blind basket. Insert blind basket in the portafilter and insert the portafilter in the brew head. With the machine warm, turn on the brew switch for about 4 seconds. If the pump starts to get quieter, turn the pump off. Wait about 1 minute, and repeat.
Do this about 5 to 10 times until the 3 way valve runs clean. Rinse the basket and repeat about 5 times to rinse machine. Remove and brew some more through the brew head.
Never let the pump get quite when running the pump, while back flushing. This can damage the pump.

How do i use cleaning powder

Hi Dont use the cleaning powder yet. Remove the group head shower and clean it with steel wool, then clean the group head where the shower sits with sfeel wool. Remove the filter fron the group handle and clean the under side. Also clean the group handle before you put the filter back in. You shouldn't use powder in these machines, but if you do, you need to put a blind filter (filter with no holes in it)in the group handle. If you dont have a blind filter, you can use foil to cover your filter. When you have done that, you need to add a 1/4 teaspoon of powder into the foil covered basket and lock the handle in the group head. Switch the coffee button on for a few seconds then off again.Domt take handle out yet. Repeat this on/off proceedure 5 or 6 times. Now remove the handle and flush out any powder that is left. Leaving the foil in place, lock the handle back into the group head and repeat the above proceedure. This fushes out any powder residue. Make a coffee and discard. Now your machine has bee back flushed. Again, i do not recomend using powder in these machines. The poder can back flow into the boiler. Just make sure you give it a good flush. If you clean your group head and shower weekly, you'll never need to use powder. Dazza COFFEE MACHINE TECHNICIAN

SilviaWhen running wster thru group head to warm up machine, noticed foamy-smelly water. Ran more - now have almost black water with tiny black specs.?

You have huge corrosion and scale in the boiler. Your heating element will be fried soon. Boiler must be opened up and cleaned, element may be salvageable. USE ONLY BOTTLED WATER NEVER EVER TAP.

Rancilio Silvia Espresso water flows too quickly about 7 seconds

  1. check the coffe filter>> it could be teard up and leaking(check it carefuly it is hard to see sometimes)
  2. check the pressure you get from group. 7 - 9 bar pressure you should get to handle. if it is biger than check by pas valve and adjust the pressure, also check up boiler security valve(security valve for water for coffee)

Super hot water out of the group head on my Rancilio Sylvia

My Rancilio Silva is not making the water or steam hot anymore. Is it fairly easy to replace the heating element?

Silvia

there are two class of expresso coffée: one produce crema and the other none. A 9 sec shot, means you are putting ground coffee that are way too coarse. The Silvia requires coffee grounf extremely fine, near powder texture.
