Are you sure the SD card is working properly? Try using a card reader and format it on the PC.
Also, make sure the Lock switch is flipped to the "unlocked" state.

My daughter received a Polaroid DVF-720 camcorder for Christmas. I bought her a Sandisk 8 GB SDHC card for it, and I keep getting a format error for it. From what I have seen on the net, a few others have...

SOLVED: To address the FORMAT ERROR, ensure you're using CLASS4 SDHC cards. Look for a (4) on the card. Ofter what you see is CLASS2, but most stores sell both.

Some cameras and camcorders cannot handle the SDHC card. Check your camcorder specifications.

I have a polaroid dvf-720 brand new and trying to record and 2mins and it says memory full? i dont understand, and i have a memory card that says card error, need help or im in trouble with the wife!

Ok so I have the same problem I went out and purchased an SD card...but it doesnt work. So I called Polaroid and you need to purchase a CLASS 6 SD card of 2gb or more for it to work properly...figures it does not say that in the manual.

New sandisk 8 gb sd card reports memory error when inserted in camera. other cards work in camera. card is recognized by laptop. tried reformatting by Vista

There are no 8GB SD cards. Cards this size are SDHC (High Capacity). SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

SanDisk ULTRA II 8GB won't read when installed in a laptop. Works fine in the Digital camcorder. Trying to import the footage on to a Fujitsu tablet laptop (12 months old). Reads the standard 2Gb memory...

No, it's a hardware issue. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card (the HC stands for High Capacity), but the card reader in your machine is clearly only compatible with the older type SD cards. SDHC devices will accept SD cards, but devices designed solely for SD cards cannot read or format SDHC cards.

There is no firmware update for this, your only fix is to buy an external reader compatible with SDHC cards for connection via a USB socket. Most new readers are fully SDHC compliant, but check the specs for shelling out your hard-earned...
