How do I go from "Protect: mode back to FM play on

May be bad connections on the preamp ic's. Otherwise there is a short in the amp that needs to be repaired.

Your Protection System probaly come on for some reason,Sony Is Known for that problem, Check on your screen if a red lit warning Staying (protect) Is on.If there is, Try hiting the reciever on the sides or the top of the cover fairly hard when it is turned on, Some times this will work to turn the protect light back off, Sony is bad for there amps end recievers going into the protect mode,

protect mode means there is a shorted components inside your reciever it's probably the out put transistors take out the transistors and test it with a multimeter.

It could! Most of the newer receivers these days need alot of ventaltion!
Unless its being played to loud with to many speakers connected!

Amp output is damaged and needs repaired. Protect mode cannot be deactivated. When amp is repaired and operating normally protect mode will not be displayed.

Hold in power button until unit "clicks." Takes about 20 seconds.

Protet mode is a special diagnostic mode that starts when a fault is detected.

When in protection mode the unit is prevented from starting by protection circuit, so to prevent further damage.

Check the speakers and speakers wiring, a contact in speaker wires, or faulty speakers can send the unit in protection.

Try unplugging power cable for one hour or so. then connect cable back and see if you get rid of protect state. Sometimes accumulation of electrostatic charges inside circuit capacitors can kick in protect mode. In that case unplugging the unit from main for some times can get rid of electrostatic charges, and reset circuits by draining power completely.
If that was the problem, you will not get Protect when plugging back power cable.

If you do all the above and still get Protect, then there is a real fault.

In that case the unit may be disassembled and tested to find the fault.

If that is the case I suggest contacting the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual, or asking a quote on repair to a local technician.

When you moved did you put somethink on it so that it does not have good ventillation through itself to keep it from overheating? Or set it down in a way that it does not have ventilation room under it? Some papers set on top of it or a pillow under it would block good cooling ventilation through it.

Check if you connect corectly the speakers wiresnand if they are right connected the audio amplifier Ic are damaged
