I sugust you get a capture card with rca jacks and a line in converter cable and use the cards capture software to record from camcorder to computer and then use a editing software to output to dvd or vcd for playback the 2 programs I use are pinnacle studio 10 plus and ulead dvd moviefactory for output to media. then if you wish you can get the camera repaired so you have got firewire port back or dv port as its known. good luck on this one

Dear Sir/Madam, We are actually looking for some professional help. We are a religious organization, and currently shooting our events with Sony PD-170, using sony normal mini dv tape and Panasonic...

Some of the tapes that we get can be problematic so, if you want to record professionally like the TV studios do. Here is what you must do so that you do not lose the information on your tapes. Some of the bad news is that you can not recover anything from your DV tapes if nothing was recorded on them. However the way forward from now on is to record black on your tapes before shooting on them. Here is what you do. Buy a new tape or if you want to use a used tape you do the same. You insert your tape in the camcorder, with your lens cap on that means you do not take your lens cap off and then start recording. What you will be doing is laying black on your tape so that it becomes ready for recording. It means that your tape will now be recorded with black. you can then rewind and start recording with your cap off the true recording. The tapes will not then be problematic. Please let me know if this has solved your problem.

Can you view HDV tapes shot by a Sony HVR-Z1U in the Sony DCR-PC-100?

NO.
Mini DV cameras do not have the ability to read the HDV codec.

Vdeo out z1 with cable ok , No viewfinder picture? No record to dv tape? CAN'T SEE TO SHOOT

This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Hi, i have a sony z1...

Hi,
I assume that you can see live view to record on mini dv cassette but can't see recorded image in playback.

Let me know when you playback mini dv cassette, does time counter run time intervals or stays blank on LCD / eye finder?

If this happens, you have dirty / clogged video heads in camera and need to use good quality mini dv head cleaning cassette to clean heads. This will resolve problem.

Need further help, let me know please.
Thank you.

Any movement recorded in HD mode is not clear.

HD mode images may appear to move somewhat stiffly compared with SD mode or DV mode images. This is because they are shot at a rate of 30 frames per second compared with the 60 frames per second for the SD or DV mode images. The movie is shot at 24 frames per second, and looks good. So HD mode can have the same feel as a movie material. For smooth movement during video clips, we recommend you minimize rapid-panning or avoid shooting fast-moving subjects. Should you wish to record more natural motion in the picture, we recommend setting a slower shutter speed, or changing the recording mode to SD or DV.
