My Husqvarna 142 chain saw, new out of the box, starts and runs well enough but left to idle it continually stalls. Any ideas?

Maybe crancase sealings is not so good. i had same problem vith old saw.

I am afraid you have confused sewing machines with chain saws!

One stitches fabric and the other makes a lot of noise and heaps of saw dust and wood chips.

All chainsaws are air cooled. The problem is the cylinder head often sits underneath the gas tank. People fill their tanks with a mixture of gasoline and oil and often spill it or overfill the tank causing that oily mixture to coat the cylinder often. Then all the saw dust and dirt sticks to the oil and pretty soon the cooling fins on the cylinder head and all the parts surrounding it are coated with an oily dirty grime that keeps air from circulating around the cylinder head letting it cool normally. I'm not that familiar with a Husky but you need to be careful about other parts in the area, but you need to clean off the cylinder head so that it can get some cooling and quit heating up the gas in your tank. Usually there is a vent in the gas cap also and if it's plugged it will cause the gas tank to pressure up and force more gas than is necessary into the carburetor. Either clean the vent or buy a new gas cap.

Probably need to re-adjust the carburetor jets. They are very small screws in the base of the carburetor. They will be labeled with an "H" and an "L" . Set the low speed first by turning it in slowly until the rpm drops slightly then start turning it outward untill the engine idles smoothly. At that point you can also adjust idle speed. Then you need to be careful here but you need to hold the throttle wide open at the same time adjusting the high speed jet. Turn it in until the rpm drops then slowly turn it out. The rpm will keep increasing. Once you get to a point where it is max'ed out then screw the jet back in one half a turn. Changes in altitude like using your chainsaw in town versus going to the mountains for firewood can sometimes make it necessary to adjust the fuel/air ratio.

If there is one it'll be underneath the saw just behind the clutch cover/side plate. Though some of the smaller cc / hobby saws don't have an oil adjustment screw. happy hunting
