Reset the router to default....the default username and password is usually on the bottom of the router..then open a web page on your pc and connect the router with a network cable..type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
Use the generic name and password to logon....once logged in, configure username and password and wifi...once setup..save and exit..disconnect and connect router to internet modem...log onto pc and look for your wifi neteork name..cheers

Hi jlouisg,
Sounds like maybe the wrong CD is being used for installation. Is this possible?
If you haven't made any configuration changes to your router's settings, you can access and set it up directly without the installation software. Simply plug a cable into one of the four Ethernet ports (not the uplink/Internet/WAN port) and then into your computer. Bring up Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. It will prompt you for a username and password. Both username and password are 'admin' (without the quotes). From this point you can make all the changes you need and set up security as well.
If you have changed settings to the router, take a paper clip and hold in the reset button on the back of the device for 30 seconds (make sure it is powered up when you do it). That will reset the device to its default settings, at which point the IP address and username/password info I provided will work.
If you're not comfortable with administering the device by that method, you'll need to find the correct CD to do the installation. If you are positive you have the correct CD for the router, then reply and answer with which version of Windows you are using.

What do you want to know about the ports? The one separated from the other ports is the Internet port. that is where you're going to connect the cable from your modem. The other four are the ethernet port where you will connect the computers.

Hold teh reset button in the back for 30 seconds and it'll reset the router to factory defaults. From there, open a browser and type the address 192.168.1.1. Username is blank and password is "admin". If that doesn't work, many of the newer linksys routers have "admin" as both the username and the password.
