once you insert the dvd in your laptop,it should asking you what to do in a box.You can choose to play the media and etc.If there is no box pop up,you can try open media player like cyberlink dvd or vlc player, go to file >open media from your dvd player.

to play dvd, a software is necessary. examples are power player. Xync, VLC are a few commonly available players that may play a DVD format, Real is also a good choice.
