Both of my kids got one of these cupcake sets. I called Walgreens customer service on this but they said they were going to have to get an answer from the manufacturer on this and that it might take a couple days to get back to me. A lot of people have been calling this in, I'd suggest you all do the same so the company can see just how many people have been having an issue with this.
Now on to my experimenting! My 5 year old was standing on a stool with all the stuff out ready to go as I was on the phone with customer service. When I couldn't get an answer I couldn't tell my son no any longer so I decided to go ahead and follow the instructions. There's a second kit around here someplace anyway. First off the oven temp converts to 356 deg F, mine would only do 355. I used the two packets in the cake mix box with two eggs and four teaspoons of butter. Let my boy stir then broke out the electric mixer. Once all mixed there was just enough for 12 mini cupcakes. The baking time was off by a lot. 10 minutes was not enough, ended up being more like 25. I took them out when the tops started to look brown. Did the toothpick stick and no cakey bits stuck to it. They end up being spongy but otherwise okay.
As for the icing, use both packets and the 2 tablespoons of water, but you really have to use a mixer on high speed to get it to whip up. We never used the little 1/2 cup measuring cup, the instructions never called for those increments, but it's a cute bonus!
I hope this helps!
Did you ever figure this out? I think a whole cake takes 2 eggs. This can't be right. It also seems odd that they list the oven temperature in Centigrade.
I agree, 2 eggs sounds like a lot. I think I will try halving it. And it is strange that it is in Centigrade. I have been watching and hoping someone would have an answer, but can't hold the kids off much longer, they are itching to make cupcakes. Will let you know how things go.
The issue I ran into is it says to add 1 Pkg of Cake mix and there are 2 bags per box.
These instructions where a mess. They need better translators.
I'm tempted to bring the cupcakes and the box to Walgreens for my money back but my daughter likes the mixing spoons for her kitchen set.
At least this wasn't an expensive lesson but last time I buy a food item from a drug store!
