Considering everything that we might step in during the day, it's a wonder that we bring our shoes into our homes at all. Cleaning our shoes not only gets all that grime back out the door, but it makes the shoes look better and last longe
Instructions Things You'll Need:

  • Shoe brushes
  • White vinegar
  • Soft cloths
  • Nylon bristle brush
  • Pencil erasers or fine sandpaper
  • Leather cleaner or saddle soap
  • Leather conditioner
  • Waterproofer
  • Shoe polish
  • Shoe polishing cloths
  • Baking soda
  1. Clean smooth leather shoes by first removing the laces and giving them a vigorous brushing with a shoe brush.

  2. Clean salt stains from shoes by mixing equal parts white vinegar and water and dampening a small cloth. Use the cloth to scrub the stained area. For suede or nubuck, use a nylon bristle brush.

  3. Use leather cleaner or saddle soap to clean the leather with a soft cloth. Pay particular attention to the seams.

  4. Clean suede or nubuck with a pencil eraser or fine sandpaper, then rub with a bath towel to bring up the nap again.

  5. Apply leather conditioner to all leather shoes, taking care to use the correct kind for smooth leather or suede. Conditioner keeps your shoe leather soft.

  6. Waterproof your shoes.

  7. Polish your shoes to help protect them and to give them a clean-looking gloss.

  8. Deodorize your shoes by sprinkling a generous amount of baking soda into them and shaking the shoes to distribute it inside. Let stand overnight, and then shake the baking soda out

Steps to Shoe Cleaning

Remove as much of the foreign material as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife.
Apply rubbing alcohol to a clean white cloth, white paper towel or cotton ball. If the spot extends deep into the pile use a blotting motion until the spot is removed or no color is transferred to the cloth. Do not allow the alcohol to penetrate into the backing as this will destroy the latex bond. If the spot is on the surface only, rub in one direction at a time. Never use a circular motion to remove the spot as this may destroy the texture. Stop if spot is removed. If not, continue with the next step.
Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a hand dish washing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 quart of water) Use a blotting motion to work the detergent into the affected area. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent solution and blotting with a white paper towel until spot is removed.
Rinse with tap water using a spray bottle, blot to remove excess moisture.
Spray lightly with water, do not blot this time; apply pad of paper towels and brick and allow to dry.
If there is still some stain on the carpet and blotting is not removing it, then moisten the tufts in the stained area with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Let stand for on (1) hour. Blot and repeat until carpet is stain free. Light will cause peroxide to change back to water so no rinsing is necessary.
Apply pad of paper towels and weight down with brick.

How do I clean my Timberland Stormbuck (Nubuck) shoes?

  • Purchase cleaning products and brushes directly from Timberland. Their products are designed for suede, leather and nubuck.
  • Go to a shoe store like Footlocker and ask for the products they carry to clean your Timberland boots. Some sell kits and others carry suede erasers to clean the boots.
  • Wet a rag and wipe it all over the surface of the shoe. Spray on shoe cleaner and rub gently with a sponge. Rinse and let dry. Timberlands dry quickly.
  • Use a soft brush to scrub away excess dirt. Hold the boot over steam as you scrub.
  • Try baby wipes to clean your leather Timberland boots. They'll moisturize the leather and clean off grime.
  • Put your boots on, and use a wet rag as though you were giving yourself a shoe shine. Finish the spots you couldn't reach with a brush.
  • Use mink oil or saddle soap on leather boots. Both will keep the boots waterproof. Work either into the leather with a soft rag.

How do you clean Timberland scuff proof boots?

Timberland boots are made for hiking and working outside in all kinds of weather. Because of this you can expect your boots to get really dirty. They will need to be cleaned on a regular basis in order to get the most use out of them before having to buy a new pair. There are several ways of going about this because your boots can just be a little dirty, or they could have a stain.

  • Wet a towel with warm water and wipe down the boots with a side swiping motion. This will remove the dirt and leave your boots looking shiny when they dry.

  • Clean the bottom of your Timberland boots using warm water and a toothbrush. The toothbrush will allow you to get the dirt out of the tread of the boots. Rinse the bottom of the boots with warm water after you have removed the dirt. Allow to air dry.
  • Wipe the Timberland boots down from head to toe with baby wipes. You will need to use several to get the entire boot clean. Allow the boots to air dry.

  • Use a Gonzo Wonder Sponge (see Resources) when your Timberland boots have stains. You use a dry sponge and wipe down the area of your boots that need cleaned. This product costs less than $5 and can keep your boots looking like new.
  • Take the crust off of a piece of bread and let it sit out and become stale. Rub it over your boots where you have dirt and stains. Watch as the stale bread gets rid of the dirt and stains and brings the boots back to new again.
  • Get the scuff marks off of your Timberland boots with an eraser. This method really works and is free, assuming you have a pencil with an eraser in the house. Just rub the eraser over the scuff mark a few times and it will magically disappear

Timberland has been a mainstay in boots for a long time now; just recently it has become a 'symbol' for teens' clothing. These are a good, sturdy boot and go well with all casual clothing (not to mention work!). A good investment in your feet.
