Hi all, TECRA M10 Model No. PTMB3A000N004 Laptop was on standby and was left open all night. Next morning, no response and would not 'wake'. Laptop was plugged in on charge. Hard rebooted (removed battery and re-inserted) comp will not start. As in no 'beeb' response no fan no visual or audio indicators. There is however a flashing amber light at the front above a symbol that looks like a power cord. Tried removing battery and plugging in directly to power and starting. No luck. Tried using a mates charger to see if charger related. No difference. When charger is initially plugged in a steady green light is present above the battery symbol, for one or two seconds. and then reverts to flashing amber Tried removing harddrive to recover data, and plugged into desktop as master (didn't have the cords to slave it). Detects all good, but startup gets in a loop. From forums seems like common startup issues with Toshies, can it be saved? I have tried vacuuming vents etc, but no dust appears to be present. Not sure what to replace to get it up and running again, or methods to save my data. (ofcourse its the work laptop :-<) Cheers!!

The following LEDs indicate the power supply status:

The power supply controller displays the power supply status through the Battery and the DC IN LEDs as listed in the tables below.

In the case of error code 10h or 12h:

Make sure the AC adaptor cord and AC power cord are firmly plugged into the DC IN 15 V socket and wall outlet. If the cables are connected correctly, connect a new AC adaptor and/or AC power cord, if necessary.

In the case of error code 2Xh:

Make sure the battery pack is correctly installed in the computer. If the battery pack is correctly installed, replace the battery pack with a new one.

If the error still exists, the system board or the battery board may be disconnected or damaged. Disassemble the computer and check the connection between the AC adaptor and the system board and connection between the system board and the battery board (if there is one, in my case it was integrated to ths system board).

After checking the connection, perform the following:
Check 1
Replace the AC adaptor with a new one. If the AC adaptor is still not functioning properly, perform Check 2.
Check 2
Use a multimeter to make sure that the F8800 fuse on the System board is not blown. If the fuse is not blown, go to Check 3. If the fuse is blown, go to Check 6.
Check 3
Use a multimeter to make sure that the F1000 fuse on the Battery board is not blown. If the fuse is not blown, go to Check 4. If the fuse is blown, replace the Battery board with a new one following the instructions in Chapter 4.
Check 4
Make sure that the Battery board cables are firmly connected to PJ8820 and PJ8821 on the System board and to PJ1000 and PJ1001 on the battery board. If they are connected firmly, go to Check 5.
Check 5
The Battery board or System board may be damaged. Replace it with a new one following the instructions in Chapter 4.

you may have a faulty motherboard connection, but try connecting the power adapter in without the battery and see if it runs, then replace the battery back in the compartment.

if the check toshiba power saver ( start-- control panel--toshiba power saver, see if any settings refer to make the system standby after 1 minute.. I think you will find setting refer to that.

Motherboard repairs are often poorly done and they are expensive except for the simplest jobs like replacing the DC jack. And new motherboards are also generally very expensive. And cheap way out of this is buying a used battery charger or a used working motherboard. eBay is usually the best place to start. Good luck!

I have the same problem with my toshiba. I am convinced that is the motherboard. I am still trying to find a solution or a way to connect the battery direct to a dc source but not sure how that will work out. I am thinking that there must be a sort of AC power controller on capacitor that can be changed.....

How to Shutdown or Turn off your Computer Properly


There's nothing wrong with powering your laptop, or desktop, down by clicking the Power button and letting it go into standby, sleep, or hibernate mode, much of the time. On your laptop, usually just tapping the Power Button will perform the same function as the following instructions.
When doing this, click on the 69966d5.jpg symbol just to the right of the Start button. This allows all open windows to be suspended properly, with current data saved. When you startup the next morning, your open programs will still be running in the background. Clicking on your logon will have your right back where you left off.
If you see the same symbol with the exclamation mark 15ca2e0.jpg, click and leave the computer alone, because it will be in the process of installing important updates before shutting down.

Nothing beats a complete "Shut Down" through the Start menu in the lower left-hand corner of your Windows screen. Mouse-over to the far right icon, and click on Shut Down in the popup window. All your open programs will be closed properly, data saved, and memory and cache cleared. This is like going to bed at night with nothing on your mind, sleeping soundly, and waking up refreshed in the morning.

Then, when the computer is powered up the next time, it will be operating at its optimum performance levels without being "bogged" down with excessive leftover garbage from previous sessions. It leaves you with a fresh start-up the next time you are ready to use your computer.

To summarize, tapping the Power button most of the time, and allowing the computer to enter sleep mode, is fine. Occasionally, do a complete Shut Down to clear everything out of memory. Your laptop/desktop will thank you...lol.

Go to control panel > sounds and audio devices properties, in there make sure its not muted, also check speaker volume and click the advanced button for the audio mixer.

Need to see display on both laptop and projector

On most laptops pressing the Fn key plus the F5 key (in your model laptop) several times will cause the video to switch to different options
In the various laptops I've used with data projectors it is the same.
If you plug in the data projector and power it up then the laptop then the Windows image will be on the data projector (provided the laptop's screen resolution matches the data projector).
To toggle between the data projector only, the LCD screen, then LCD screen plus data projector, and or back through this sequence, just press the Fn key and the F5 key to get the displays you want .
