You can take off the back of the tv. Look for the red wire at the top of the tube. Follow it down to the part that it goes into. On that part (transformer) there are 2 controlls. The one marked SCREEN, is the one you can turn up and watch the screen at the same time. If the tv shuts off, put that control back to the original position. If it brings up the brightness, then it is fixed. If not, take to a repair shop.
