Our Maytag MDB9100AWB is 5 years old. Have had repairman out several times. Problem is a light cloudy scum on everything. He has replaced several items, has had us clean parts and fixtures, etc and even had us switch detergents. Yuck, everything is cloudy and the sterling silverware has turned dark even after I scrubbed it all clean.

There are three typical causes of chronic cloudiness on glassware/dishes.

  1. The incoming water may be too hot. Make sure the water is at or below 140 degrees F.
  2. Test to see if cloudiness is removable by hand cleaning or soaking for 5 minutes in white vinegar. If it is removable, it's due to hard water. Use a good quality detergent, and match the amount of detergent used to the water hardness and use a rinse aid. (Some low quality detergents clean poorly and leave a film.)
  3. Glassware may be etched, due to too much detergent, too high water temperature, or pre-washing. Etching is not reversible, so it's important to correct the problem promptly.
Hopefully these hints will help you to home in on the problem.
