When I tried to connect my 533w to a Comcast wireless router, I get an error message that says it can't detect the router. I went over this with a Comcast technician, including checking the internet settings in the control Panel and looking at command prompts : ipconfig, but no Physical Address was listed and we determined that it wasn't the router or modem. Any ideas?

What connection , you never said once wifi?
its a wifi router but has 2 ways to connect see?
ive never seen a wireless only router ever,
wired only modem yes

wired and wireless is par, for sure. both are there.
so what OS is this,XP?
why not use the Ethernet cable to the router ($3 cable) 1foot to 100 meters. long. you pick one.
then it works, and play with wifi later. gee?
WIFI is fragile technology. ( a fact)

who owns said router, you or ISP
if you ,do you have the password to it>?
the manual on it shows the default password,
mine new was admin (null) means no pw.
if ISP owns it the use a long secret PW.
this is not the wifi pw its to the web page inside said router. config pages it is called.

so what router is that tell the help the model we can work from there
do other PC work here
do other CELL connect.
all if this is easy to do.
ssid name
encryption mode.
password. for wifi.

more , so if using wifi

    do other computer connect ok
    or all cell phones.
if not the router is setup wrong
or your using the wrong credentials.

it must be setup correctly or the wifi will work.
google how to setup wife yet.
My routers all have gigalan, and wifi. both.
so all can be connected 2 ways.
    wired or wireless.
wire is super simple, wireless not.
    tell more get more,

tell what router you have and if you own it.
if the ISP owns it that means its locked.
and only THEY can tell you the wifi rules.
    ssid name,
    encrypt mode.
    password.
some ISP put sticker on the rear of the router. with these locked in facts.

there are vast routers, used, even comcast.
    not one can i guess.
the book on it, is free.,
if it has the default password in to router,
we can dig that up, its in PDF on that unstated router.
for sure, if it fails it means its locked out by comcast
    good luck.

SOURCE: Wireless internet connection

You haven't specified if the host computer is able to access the internet. Ip Address confict can be one of the reasons why the laptop isnt able to connect and we can have a series of reasons why we have this IP Address conflict - 1) There is no wireless encryption defined. So, we have neighbors connecting to the wireless network causing IP Address conflicts. 2) The laptop is not able to renew the IP Address after the lease expires. This can mostly be resolved by restarting the computer and in certain cases flusing the TCP/IP stack. 3) There is a static IP Address assigned to the laptop in the router's DHCP range which is conflicting with the host computer. I would suggest you may initiate a chat with me or anyone else who has expertise in routers to get this successfully resolved. That would definitely save your time. Good luck

SOURCE: Laptop not picking up Wireless Routers

Firstly check that it is installed by going into Device Manager.
Goto START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - SYSTEM - DEVICE MANAGER
Look at the list, If you see your card there with a yellow question mark, or a red exclamation mark then it has an issue.
Firstly unistall the device by right clicking it and select Unistall.
Then reboot and Windows will detect the card again and reinstall the drivers for it.

Check back in Device Manager to see if it is still the same. If so, it is possible it is a hardware failure and would need to be replaced.

Beofre you get to that stage though, turn off the laptop, remove the card (it will be underneath under a panel and will have 2 wires connecting to it) then put it back in making sure to push it into the slot correctly. You do not need to remove the wires to do this, and the card does not need to come all the way out.

Post back if you are still having issues.

Guru j/k and I spent several hours last night on this problem. We Instant Messaged on Skype and finally figured out that an old expired copy of Norton Security Suite was the cause of the problem, once removed, no mor problem. Guru is the man. He was pleasant, persistent and knowledgable. I highly recommend your service. If the need arrises, I will contact you guys first.

Adding to discription.I'm trying to connect two computers that access the net wirelessly but are not networked. I'm installing the HP using the HP installation disk,it does the configuration tells me to...

I am assuming your router or modem has wireless capabilities, or you have a wireless hub. If your provider is comcast you have to have comcast wireless equipment.
Make sure wireless is turned ON at modem/router switch and or IP page(192.168.0.1 in URL. most equipment uses that address by default if not you will have to get the address from the manufacturer of your equipment.). Again if your provider is comcast call comcast to set up your equipment (you have already paid for it!).Once you have established you are broadcasting a signal you should have no problem connecting. I hope that I helped GOOD LUCK

Netgear wirless - installed on toshiba satellite a45 - S151 will not connect to internet router = comcast - linksys also causes conflict with connection of other wireless computer

Presumably, you have configured your wireless router:
* SSID (your "network name")
* encryption-level ('WPA' or higher security)
* password for your network

With that information, any wireless device (iPod Touch, iPhone, NetGear wireless adapter) should be able to connect to your wireless router.

> conflict with connection

Exactly what error-message are you getting?

How can I my up my comcast netgear modems wireless to work? when I try my PS3 it detects a sginal but wont obtain an IP address. The same with my lap top.

You have to change the ipddress on the router different then the modem. For example 192.168.9.1 and leave the modems ip alone. Plug the cable into the Lan port of the router. Go to the setup screen on the router and tell give your username and password that
Comcast gives you. You will need comcast gateway address and dns numbers. There will be a connect button on the router and tell it connect it to the modem. You are trying to let the router receive that only ip address.

Ethernet adapter error during install

Your ethernet adapter might be disabled. Go to Control Panel > Network Connections and look for Local Area Connection. Right-click it and choose Enable. Or go to Device Manager and Enable it there. If that didn't help, try to use a different Ethernet cable.

Experiencing error when connecting to wireless router

I've had this happen before when using a USB wireless device. Is the wireless on your system built in? Or do you connect it to a USB port? The external devices sometimes try to use their own software to configure wireless so you can shut it off and just use the Windows wireless tool. I assume you setup the wireless with a security key and entered that key into your system to try and connect? Let me know if any of that helps and rate the solution if it does!

I cannot connect with linksys wireless router

From your description, you appear to be connected to the router fine.

Try powering down the modem from Comcast for about 2 minutes then power it back up. If it doesn't come back, call Comcast service as it is likely on their end.

Hope this helps.

Connecting DLink thru Comcast Cable Modem and Vonage box

first you see the in the internt explorer in that tools in that is give internet option in that connection>lan settings> if the proxey server is ther then remove it if not ther then go it. i think you get it.

second think is that in your dlink router reconfigure the router properly and give the isp details correct and one more thing is check the dns value.
