I need a driver for a hitachi gh40f cd rom but i cant find it.

once you install the drive into yuour computer it will auto setup the driver for it. now if you have xp and then you can find the driver online. winodws 7 and up should auto install most of the time the drive comes with a cd that has nero on it so you can install nero and burn dvds and cds if it does not you can down load it on the net

code 10 no driver is installed for this device
click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll through all of your devices if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark ? ! or a red X you will need to update the drivers for this device right click select update driver/reinstall driver

make sure that the cd rom is getting enough consistent power test all leads that are attached to the cd rom including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or

your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd rom then plug them back in this will activate found new hardware wizard

you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your cd rom or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
also
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click to update driver
you need only do the registry check if you cant see the drive/s in windows explorer/my computer
it might be a registry problem
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

you dont need a driver for DVD-ROM it will automatically appear to your screen.. you just need a NERO if your DVD rom has a quality to burn a cd.. or dvd

I would suggest to uninstall the driver and download the latest driver. Also see whether the LED on the drive is blinking. If it is, then probably a driver reinstall might fix the issue. And if the LED is not blinking and there is no response from the Drive, then probably you would have to get the drive replaced.

I recommend www.driverguide.com as a good place to get hard to find drivers. After doing some more research, I did find that there is a driver release for Hitachi drivers.

Sounds like it's just fried... Sorry... There is a universal driver for CD-rom(same with DVD-Rom drives) drives that windows uses.. so if it doesn't work it's not cause of the drivers(especially if you just reinstalled windows or it was just repaired since it reinstalls the drivers from the cd)
