This often happens when the remote is programmed to a code that's close but not the right one to control that specific model of DVD player. If the remote was powering off the DVD player before it may be a bad remote. Try this link you can try reprogramming the remote. Hope this helps!!

Hi there!! This is Kimberly Escobar with DISH Network, just ran across your post and wanted to provide you with some helpful information to help get your problem resolved. If your remote control is functioning as far as turning the T.V off and the volume, one of the things you may want to check is that the power button is working, you can verify this by trying to turn on and off the receiver. If it works for the receiver you will need to try to address the remote to your T.V again using different codes. To address a remote to the T.V we use certain codes that integrate to the remote allowing it to function with the T.V. unfortunately we cannot promise the remote will function the T.V completely. You can find more codes at this link here http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/remote-setup. If you need any additional help please free to contact us directly at 1800-333-DISH. Hope this is helpful to you.
