No picture When I turn the TV on the picture and sound come on for a split second, then the sound stays on but the picture goes black. I can't pull up the menu or anything. It's like the tv just shuts down the picture but still plays the audio. Any ideas?

Thanks. I actually tried that and it worked, but the very next time I turned off the tv it wouldn't come back on. It's become a hit or miss thing. It came on last night so I just turned off the cable box but left the tv itself on all night. I think the repair man is a good call. Thanks again.

I have exactly the same problem. after a while of turning the tv on and off again it has began to work, only for a reoccurance within 2 months.

my tv is 40inc when im whatching it the screen goes black but the sound stays on and i can still turn channel over and sound changes to what ever channel i turn to but still no picture. thanks rob

Sounds familiar. My TV started going to black screen this weekend. First an on/off fixed it, but then required great off time between the restarts. Will try the unplug for 4 hours remedy, but if that doesn't work, is it worth it to try to have it repaired, or just plunk down the $$ for a new TV?

Today, I'm experiencing the same problem with my 46 inch that is now only 1 year old. What's interesting, I can watch a dvd but not regualr/cable TV. Is that common?

  • agent8686 Jan 16, 2009

Hello, I have a 40" Samsung LCD and have seen the same problem occur about once every 2 or 3 weeks. Powering off and on fixes the problem but I wonder if it will get worst over time. I called Samsung and they said to have the cable box checked but I do not think it is the box since others are reporting the same problem. Please append if you find out more details. Thank-you.

  • smsnglawsuit Feb 25, 2009

In May 2007 I bought a 46-inch Samsung LCD TV from BestBuy. In February of this year, 7-8 months after the 1 year warranty expired, my TV stopped working properly. I can hear sound, but no picture. I work with technology and I am an expert in home theater setup so, I checked for all possible causes, like bad cable connections, etc. No luck. I decided to research the issue on the Internet and very quickly found-out that there are hundreds of other consumers that have experienced the exact same issue with that specific set (LN-T4665F), making it clear that it is a manufacturing defect.

On February 24th I called Samsung to arrange service and I was told I would have to pay for it because the set was out-of-warranty. Considering this was clearly a manufacturing defect, I didn't think that was fair and the agent told me to call their escalated costumer service department, or ECR. I called the next morning and, after having to explain the exact same story all over again, was told by an extremely rude agent called Tutson that he wasn't going to transfer my call because "just because I saw it on the Internet it doesn't mean it is true". I continued to ask to be transfered and he continued to say no, in an extremely rude way. I hung-up the phone. To my awe, my cell-phone rings and it is this Tutson gentlemen calling me to scream to me about hanging-up on him. I couldn't believe it.

I eventually found the direct number to the ECR department and spoke with a person named Britney who told me there was nothing she could do because they have a procedure.

Here are a few links to other people saying they have the same issue:

hello i have a 40"flat screen phillips and i have consistent sound but nothing comes out on the screen checked cables checked everything is my screen broken? i bought it on venue formally peach direct its only a year old and i overpaid thinking i bought a good product ($1400)helppp!!

I have a similar issue with my LE46M51B. While watching TV the screen suddenly went back to black but the sound still worked. Tried powering dowm, leaving the screen for 24 hours but to no avail.

Strange thing is when I switch the TV on for about 1 second the picture is pefect but then goes off.

TV repair man came to give me a free estimate and said it could be one of 5 printed circuit boards and three of these boards were £150 plus each. He also estimated that the total repair including circuit boards could be in excess of £300 including labour.

Anyone know whigh component fails to cause this issue and on which circuit board then please let me know and I will change it / them myself. Anyone have an engineers manual for this series of LCD TV's?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Just ordered a new 46" LCD TV with a three year warrenty from Argos so I will either be skipping this TV or if I can get the info and some tips I will be treating this as a project and fitting it in the spare room should I manage to fix it.

    It's a long shot I know.

    Alan.

you probably have a bad lcd backlight tube. there is several videos online that show how to test and find the bad tube and you can bypass that tube and tv will be fine.

Try a hard restart, which simply means unplugging the power cord of the TV, and replugging it after 4 hours have passed. This technique reprograms the electronics, to a certain extent. If the picture does not return, then you have a more serious problem, that requires the attention of a TV repairman.

I had the same problem. It turned out that my cable box needed to be rebooted. Now everything is fine. Try unplugging your cable box, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in, let it boot up and then try the tv again.

Turned out to be a faulty screen driver board. If you take the back off of your TV you will find several power supply, sound boards and TV driver boards in the middle of your TV. Down each side you have a screen matrix driver board that has something line 24 drivers down each side of the TV. Just one of these channels had packed up.

I was lucky enough to cone across exactly the same TV as mine with a damaged screen on ebay, I purchased this and swapped a board from this into my TV and it burst into life.

You can type the part number into google ane these boards are available but they cost around £150.00p but I bought a whole TV with a U/S screen for £60.00p so I was lucky.

Hope this helps,

Alan.

I have noticed and think it may be temperature orientated. Switched power off to allow the TV to reset and once TV and room was warmed slightly - it works OK.

Screen goes black but still sound

This is inverter or backlighting problem. Can you try switching it on and off quickly for a couple of times and tell me if these '2 seconds' get any longer'. If picture stays longer and longer before shutting down, one lamp needs replaced-if not, please replace inverter board
