you may be able to find a replacement handset on Ebay, they sell many such things...it probably is not worth trying to repair. Electronic devices have, and have had for many past years, a stipulation in the electronics area.
Anyway, try Ebay, keep looking, you may find a replacement.
finite lifespan, this is the reason for the introduction of the 'durable' www.ebay.com
Since you didn't specify the model of your VTech 5.8GHz phone I can only suggest you enter it into the search box here to download a copy of the manual.
some vtech phones put a chip in their phones and will not take an aftermarket battery...either that or its the wrong one for the phone...ive worked for a battery store for 3 years
I couldn't find the exact solution to your question but I did find the Vtech website complete with customer support. You can also download a user manual for your specific model if you need it. Here's the address: http://www.vtechphones.com/vtechui/index.cfm
It seems like the phone uses a lot of power or you talk a lot on the phone. If your buying a cheap battery just remember you get what you pay for. This site here has some batterieshttp://www.shopping.com/xPO-Vtech-VTECH-V-TECH-Cordless-phone-battery-for-IP811-IP-811-NEW Otherwise check Ebay or Amazon. Hope I've shed some light on this for you. You might just wanna get a new phone.
You need to buy new batteries for your phones. Large retailers charge $10-12 per battery but you can usually find them for closer to $4 online at amazon.com or eBay.
