My laptop screen went out on me. When i power it up the status light appears to be booting up normally but the screen is still dark. I've tried to hook it up to an external monitor but still no picture. What can the problem be and should I think about just getting a new laptop? Thanks

Did you hit the keys that makes you toggle to an external display. Sometimes you just can't connect an external monitor, you have to hit keys that toggle between display on laptop only, display on both laptop and external or display on external only.

Your liquid display has been probably damaged because of dropping it down, laptop LCD screen is one of the most delicate part of a laptop, it needs a tender loving care from the user when we just only cleaning it surface with a provided cleaning solution for it.

You said that it was dropped its much probably that your laptop LCD screen broke. I had the same experience like you when my sister pulled the strap of my bag were my laptop was there i place on top of my cabinet so that she cannot used it when I'm away. But she sees and because she wanted to play games she pulled the bag down and my laptop bangs on the floor.. And it was broke.

For you u can still bring it to the service center to replace your LCD or for some availabity of stocks you can order it directly from the Main service center probably US.

When i hear that story from you the memories of like what also happen to me came back.. tsk..tsk... So when it happens I learn and give me a lesson that my laptop is much safer when i putting it and do my work with my laptiop on the floor. And hide and keep it under the bed with pillows on guard.

tnx

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 9303WSMi - 17" LCD Screen is showing coloured static..

More like the LCD Inverter Board..a loose connection would not cause that, unless you pulled the video cable by openening and closing the lid, but again that too is highly unlikely..

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5585 Laptop LCD Problem

Have you tried booting into "Enable VGA" mode via the "Windows Advance Option" screen? By press F8 before Windows XP loading screen comes up. In this mode the Video Card drivers are disabled. So if your screen appears normal and not white in this Mode then it is your video card drivers which are causing the issue.

SOURCE: acer laptop has developed a fully dark screen

I am assuming that you have tried switching from external monitor output and local monitor. There should be a hot key on the keyboard to switch it. Also, try looking to make sure the driver for the display is up to date. I f it was update recently try rolling the driver back. If you need help with doing any of this post a comment. Hope this has helped some.

Screen began flashing then went dark

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen
tip

Had "mirror image" boot screen.

I had a Dell XT2 tablet, brand new-when I went to boot it, the POST screen and Windows load screen were half-off the screen and mirror imaged as well. After trying the Dell website, as well as Google and Bing, with no success, I decided to try a trick that sometimes works on Toshiba Portege tablets too. Remove the battery, unplug the power adapter, and hold the power switch for 10 seconds. Replace the battery, plug back in, and it appears to reset the CMOS-both the Toshiba and Dell boot normally.I suspect that this will work for many other models of laptops, but I have no proof-I do know that it will work on Dell D-620/D-630 laptops. I have also used this trick to bring laptops out of what appears to be a 'hung' sleep/standby state.

There are steps to 'change' the visual effects of the "Display." 1. Right click on "Desktop", click Personalize, click, Display Settings. 2. Identify, Monitor used? 3. Down (arrow) select Monitors' graphics. 4. Adjust, (low>high) resolution. 5. Select, Colors (16 bit>32bit), etc. 6. Click, Advanced Settings, click Properties ("check device status"). 7. Dell D600 Battery Causes Screen to go Black

Laptop batteries normally just last for a few years, depending on usage. If your battery is almost done, it may report a 'full' status, but just have the capacity to feed your laptop for a few minutes.

You may check this by disconnecting current while your laptop is started up. If low battery capacity is the cause, the same will happen within a few minutes.

Laptops normally go in standby on low battery, to avoid data loss.
