I am trying to setup my receiver with my TV and Comcast cable box using HDMI cables (TV-OUT and HDMI-1) but for some reason I don't get any sound from non-HD channels. Am I missing something?? I've read through the manuals and ran through different settings and cant seem to figure out why the receiver doesn't pick up the audio from regular channels. I was thinking of using a different setup like running component cables with an optical for the cable box but I don't want to go through the hassle of buying more cables if there's an easier fix. Thanks!

I'm thinking there might be a setting in the cable box that may be sending the wrong bit rate for PCM 2-channel audio but usually the receiver decodes that stuff fine. Just the same, I'd give Comcast a call.

I run the video from my cable box directly to the TV (HDMI) and the coaxial digital audio to my receiver so each one can do what it does best with the best possible un-modified source data.

Pioneer works with cable box but not with new blue

HDMI version is 1.3 in your receiver. The current version is 1.3b. I would suggest calling Pioneer cust assistance and see if there is a firmware update. Your unit has a 2 year parts & labor warranty. Their # is 1-800-421-1404 It sounds like a CODEC issue. Hope this helps

No video on Denon avr 688

After days of frustration the real problem was with the cable box. It needed a firmware update. Following forum advice I disconnected the cable box power cord for a few minutes, reconnected it, allowed the cable box to reinitialize. Turned off receiver and TV. Turned TV back on and set it to HDMI connection, turned on receiver and all worked fine. Great picture and sound.( Needed to buy an optical cable to go from the cable box to the receiver to get sound from the speaker system. )--the dirtybird

How to Hook up HDMI from Comcast Motarola Cable Box

Connect the HDMI outputs on your various components to the HDMI inputs on your receiver. Connect the HDMI output on the receiver to the input on your TV. HDMI incorporates digital audio, so no need to buy optical audio cables. If your receiver does not have HDMI inputs for all your components, you will need to make a choice. HDMI = Best, component video + optical audio = second best, S-video+ optical audio = third best

No sound on NON HD channels

I had the exact same problem on a brand new Insignia 26 " LCD with DVD. Comcast tech was able to fix it by changing the Comcast box diagnostics. Here is what he did. Using the Comcast remote with the TV on - press power, cable, menu in that order. A comcast diagnostic srceen will appear. Select Additional HDMI options, then audio options. Change the audio options to L-PCM. Press power again to exit the diagnostics. That will fix it and you get to use the HDMI cable.
