Screen went black and laptop still on - Compaq Presario CQ60-220US PC Laptop

1. See if you can see faint images. If yes then there is a problem of display back light. Possible causes are a) Loose connections of display inverter ( If you are confident to do this, open front bazel and re connect inverter connection) b) Problem in the harness of connection between display and graphic card connector on Motherboard.
2. If the screen is totally dark then there might be a problem on your motherboard. If you are not expert, take it to Laptop repair shop.

power off the laptop, leet it cool, then check again, if not then clean the memory module with an eraser, or try connecting an external monitor and let me know if the problem reapets.
