My Seagate Freeagent Xtreme 1tb hard drive has ceased to work. It starts powering on and makes the initial warm-up clicking noises as the hard drive starts reading, but then it just shuts down (the logo doesn't even light up).

if windows then go to
Start->, select My Computer, and rightclick, and choose Manage.
now on the left there is disk manager - click it. if the disk is on the list it is working and might just need to be formatet or activated.

The clicking sound means that the are that controls the head that reads the disc is loose and not functioning properly. The drive is bad. There is a way you can possibly recover the files though. Put the drive in a freezer for an hour or so. This will make all the metal parts contract as they get colder. After it is frozen then plug it in and attempt to get your files. It will eventually warm up and start failing again. Time to refreeze it. I've been sucessful recovering files this way before. Sometimes it takes a long time to get them all but better than paying thousands of dollars for recovery.

try with removing and reconnecting the bus cable and smps cable.
and try with different bus connection

Go to Computer Management. (compmgmt.msc) then to Disk Management and assign drive letters .
