- Remove the top two screws from the control panel.
- Remove the control panel. Be careful not to pull to hard as there is a ribbon cable taped into place.
- If the ribbon cable is taped, remove the tape and set down the panel as to not put weight on the ribbon cable.
- On the top left side of the unit (behind the dust sensor), there is a small box that is held in by a screw and plastic clips. Remove the screw and put tension on the clips so you can remove the box.
- there should be two holes in the box (one on each side), use a cotton swab and alcohol to clean outside and inside the box. I reached inside with the wet swab as far as it would reach.
- While you are in there, take some time to remove as much dust off of the front panel and anywhere else it may be.

That did the trick for me.

I have been looking to buy an air purifier and people keep telling me to get a HEPA. What does this mean?

HEPA is a type of air purifier. It stands for high-efficiency particulate air. To qualify as a HEPA filter by government standards the filter must remove 99.7% of all particles larger than 0.3 micrometers from the air. The following site lists the top 10 HEPA purifiers available online - http://www.air-purifiers-america.com/AP101_top10.asp.

Fan wont turn

I have taken one apart. reassembled and the fan would not turn, although there was power to the motor and it wanted to turn.
Sorry this is long...only this is about taking the motor itself apart..and I have yet to find a replacement motor.

1. Tried a little WD 40...(only on iron motor Housing!) nothing.
2. Took apart inside of motor. some rust inside..
3. carefully rubbed clean with WD 40..
4. leaned off WD 40 with contact cleaner...
5. Then worked little bearing loose on back side.
-Kind of turned upon reassembly..
6. Found some silicone High temp lubricant and took motor inside part again.
7. a very thin coat of lubricant inside rotor.
-Re assembled yet again..began to turn at high speed, kept running..24 hrs..
- It .finally turned at silent mode. and continues to work
This may be ar beyond what you want to do, however if all else fails...what else can you do? buy another one?
Tips:
1. mark rotor holders with housing. (do not reverse.)
2. make sure you remove all lint, dust, etc inside.
3. the rotor bearing I had to work by hand again and again repeatedly syringing a little WD 40 at a time to until it turned easily.

Ozone smell

When the unit is clean it will produce more ozone. If the unit is a bit oversized then it becomes worse. As an installer I have to be carefull to not oversize these units. O3 is harmless and actually will only stay in the air as O3 for about 1/2 hour. Because of this it will not build up in the air. O3 also in a powerful disinfectant and will help kill mold and bacteria in the air. As soon as the filter gets a little bit of dust on it the O3 production will become much less. Run your fan continuously for a day or so and it will go away.

My Alpine Air XL-15 Air Purifier youst to have a

The Classic XL-15 should have 2 individual indicator lights. The 'red' light is the ionizer indicator, and the 'green' light is the ozone level indicator. Both lights should be illuminated, if the unit is operating properly. The red light should be pulsing, and the green light should be dimly lit, and brightened as the output knob is turned up - indicating a higher ozone production. If the green light is not lit, you likely won't smell the ozone. The first thing you should try, is cleaning the filter and glass ozone plate. Unplug the unit and remove the rear air filter. Clean the filter with clean water and allow to COMPLETELY air dry. Removed the glass plate by depressing the lever behind the glass plate, and gently pulling it out. Clean the glass with a half water, half ammonia (or distilled white vinegar, if ammonia not available) and an old toothbrush to clean between the mesh. Dry plate with a hair dryer and re-place plate into unit. Replace dried air filter, making sure the little tab on the bottom is secured into the interlock. Power the unit on and you should see the indicator lights and smell the fresh ozone!

Honeywell F50A does not clean well

sounds like it is working. You could replace the cells and prefilters with a disposable box filter that fits.

Cleaning the top of the oreck air purifier

what i normally do, is i take off the top of the and remove the filter, the metal dust catcher, and the back filter... i was the 2 filters and rub them down. then with the metal dust catcher i take a butter knife. wrap it in a clorox wipe (making sure that no metal is exposed to scratch) then i feed it through the metal dust catcher one at a time to clean it. It took me 5 wipes to clean the whole thing. when the wipe comes out black then i rotate it. As for the top of the machine. there are 2 screws that i removed to get to the fan. when they were out i used a can of air (like you would clean a computer with) and blew out the fan... it took care of all noise and it runs just like the day i got it.

Green light is on but will not operate

Hi Bran44dy,

Because this purifier is essentially a filter in a box with a fan pulling/pushing air through, I can only guess that "will not operate" means that the fan isn't moving the air.

1) Is there a fuse that you can check to see if it's blown?
2) Have you tried resetting the Filter Life Indicator button?
3) Is it still within warranty?

The instructions for this unit recommend operating it at MEDIUM level on a long-term basis - - evidently, it isn't designed for continuous high-speed operation. If it was running with a blanket over it, it's conceivable that the fan motor overheated and quit. Unless you are into repairing electric motors (probably not, the best you can do would be to replace it). Try contacting Jarden Consumer Solutions Customer Service at 1-800-546-5637 - - if they won't sell you a motor, you might be able to find a generic one on the Internet, but with a MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) of ~$90 (when new), it's going to be easy to spend more time & money fixing this than it's worth. There are lots more durable purifiers out there, though you'll likely have to pay for it.
