As long as you power the devices from the same receptacle or plug strip the MAC will be perfectely safe. Firewire and USB are fairly safe as long as you don't drive high voltage into them from failed equipment or ground loops.

Not to sure about a mac but I think mac's use a mp4 format when it rips a cd, and the Sansa will use a mp3 file. You can download a free program to convert these files but again, I know where for a PC but not a mac. Look for free mp4 to mp3 converter program for Mac..

This is one of those questions that's virtually impossible to answer, it could be anything.
Your best option is to take to a mac specialist (the dealer where you bought it) or to an Apple Store if you have one near by.
It may not need a new hard drive, it may just be corrupted and need sorting out. On the other hand it could have failed mechanically and will need to be replaced - check your warranty. There have been a number of reports of HDs failing in some models and Apple have replaced them free of charge as there was a manufacturing fault at the HD factory that didn't come to light until the drives had been running for about a year.
You have been using Time Machine to back up your work haven't you?

I think the migration assistant (in the utilities file in your application folder) can transfer files direct via USB.

Does it indicate that it is fully charged? If it does, I would return it or have it replaced. You have a 1 year warranty from SanDisk. SanDisk Technical Support 1-866-726-3475 If not, try using a different USB port on the computer, preferably one in the back. Best of Luck.

The USB port you are using might not have enough power. Try a USB port on the back of the computer if possible. Also try a shorter USB cable if you have one around.
