Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

How do I download photos & videos to my PC?

With all digital cameras the maker delivers a CD (DVD) with software to install on your computer. This makes it possible to put the pictures from the camera on any computer. On the disk(s) are drivers for all operating systems that need them. (Windows 7 and up do have all drivers for hardware that is certified by Microsoft) And there are programs to download the pictures from the camera to the PC. Sometimes the manufactures also delivers software to organise the pictures in folders and software to view or even enhance the pictures you shot.
When you lost the disk, most of the time you can get the software on the website for your brand. Sometimes you even get newer, updated software and new drivers if needed.
If you can't get software form your brand, you always can install other generic software like Ulead, Pixir, BeFunkey, Gimp, Photoshop express. Or if that is not possible you could install an external memory card reader and download the pictures via de memory card reader.

My son bought Sony Cybershot D350 and given as a gift to us. Due to my computer problem, my computer has been formated and the CD loaded for downloading the photos got erased. Guide me how to download...

You don't need any special software.

Or, despite what I said first, you can use any photo cataloging program, such as iPhoto or Windows Photo Gallery.

I received an Emerson 10 x 25 Digital Camera Binoculars as a gift. I followed all the instructions, installed the drivers and the photoimpression5 from the enclosed disc. The download photo does not work....

Hi Brian,
Try this, it may work.It will tell you whether or not it is the Camera or the Software.
Your camera, as far as the computer itself and Windows XP is concerned is a 'DRIVE'.
Try the following steps:
0 Go to the desktop of the computer and in a blank spot right click the mouse and using the
menu CREATE A NEW FOLDER ON THE DESKTOP. LABEL IT "EMERSON PHOTO TEST"
1 Unplug the camera from the computer
2 Un-install the software.
3 If there are no pictures in the camera. Shoot some.
4 Turn the camera OFF.
5 While the camera is OFF, connect the it to the computer using it's cable.
6 Turn the camera ON (you should hear two musical notes telling you that it is connected.
7 Set the camera to the view mode as though your were looking at pictures on the screen on the camera back
8 There should appear a box on the screen. The first item in the box should be highlighted.
It will say "Copy pictures to a folder on my computer using Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard" Click on that.
9 Follow each step of the wizard and deposit all of the pictures into the folder " Emerson Photo Test" Don't Erase the photos from the camera if it asks you.
10 Shut off the camera and disconnect it
11 Open up the folder on the desktop. At the top of the folder on the right select files view to Thumbnails.
If your cable and camera are OK, the photos will be there.
12 To Test PhotoImpressions5, to see if it will view the photos without crashing your computer.
Reinstall it and open the folder on the desktop.
One additional thing. If your Windows XP is not fully up to date, you should download The Service Packs and install them until you get to Service Pack 3.
To check which service pack you have now, if any, go to My Computer" and view "System Information" it will tell you which Service Pack you have.
I hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

1-Connect the camera put it on. Start/My Computer . The camera appears as E: or D: etc. Click on icon and folders until you see your photos there. Copy enclosing folder (Right-Click-COPY) and paste in My Pictures etc. (RIGHT-CLICK- PASTE). To erase the card right-click Format) but do that only after you have saved the photos to two locations for safekeeping.

OR

2- Take out the SD memory card from the camera and insert it in an SD card reader and connect the reader to the computer. Go to My Computer and see the photos there.

OR

3- Download free Picasa software , and click Import your photos after connecting the camera or the card reader.

You don't really need any software to use your camera. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). But despite what I said first... There are plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

I have the camera and plug but no cd

When you connect the camera to the computer, it probably creates a USB flash drive in My Computer - you should be able to view and copy the photos from there. You could also check Vivitar's Website to download the OEM software, or Download.com for some generic photo-editing software.
