My new HP dv6-3111sa laptop has an awful tinny, cheap transistor radio type sound despite the manufactures description that it is has Altec Lansing speakers and Dolby Advanced Audio. It only sounds any good when connected to an external amp and speakers. Is this bad sound usual for this laptop or could there be a problem. Many thanks. David Tillman.

It seems as though the speakers wire connector may have become loose or disconnected. You will have to remove the switch cover above the Keyboard to check. Here is the typical instructions for removing it:

Before you begin any removal or installation procedures:

1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power cord.
4. Remove the battery by following these steps:
a. Turn the computer upside down with the front panel
toward you.

Close the computer.
3. Turn the computer upside down with the front panel
toward you.
4. Remove the three Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screws that secure
the switch cover to the computer.
5. Turn the computer display-side up with the front toward you.
6. Open the computer as far as possible.
7. Lift the rear edge of the switch cover and swing it forward
until it rests on the keyboard.
8. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector 1 to which
the LED board cable is connected and disconnect the cable 2
from the LED board.
9. Remove the switch cover.

Remove the Keyboard:
Remove the four Phillips PM2.5×7.0 screws that secure the keyboard to the computer.
Turn the computer display-side up with the front panel
toward you.
5. Open the computer as far as possible.
6. Lift the rear edge of the keyboard 1 until it rests at an angle.
7. Slide the keyboard 2 back to disengage the tabs on the front
edge of the keyboard from the top cover.
8. Swing the keyboard 3 forward until it rests on the palm rest.

Release the ZIF connector 1 to which the keyboard cable is connected and disconnect the keyboard cable 2 from the system board.
10. Remove the keyboard.

Remove the Speaker Assembly:

Disconnect the speaker assembly cable 1 from the power button board.
5. Remove the two Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screws 2 that secure the speaker assembly to the computer.
6. Remove the speaker assembly 3.

Reverse directions to replace everything.

SOURCE: laptop sound not working

troubleshoot for a disconnected wire right below the mouse pad or under the speaker panel. I went through the same problem... it was a disconnection problem. I fixed it myself and never tore a computer apart before. It works great now!

No sound from one speaker. It's a new Altec Lansing VS2621 2.1 Channel Speaker System

Altec Lansing used to be good, but not any more. I had one that buzzed even when switched off. As it was in my bedroom, I put it all back in the box like new and gave it to a Christmas present drive for underprivileged children.

The speaker with the controls goes on the right. Here is the installation manual

Windows should find the driver, but here

Altec lansing connect

IM600 Compatibility: iPod mini; iPod classic 3G, 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G; iPod touch 1G, 2G; auxiliary input connects to any CD, DVD, or MP3 player using a stereo mini-plug. If you have a mini-plug port on the IPhone which I believe you have; then attach a male to male plug in between the two devices. Take to Radio Shack for correct line plug.

Hi, i am looking for a 5.1 or higher model in Altec Lansing home theate for my PC, Is there a need for extra sound card if i am getting the Altec home theatre? please can you help me with this.

You don't need more than one sound card, although if your sound card doesn't support 5.1 audio (it will need the green, the orange, and the black ports) then you will need a new sound card to be your main source of audio. You can find them pretty cheap at most electronic stores, and they're relatively easy to install. Hope this helps

My Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers have stopped working. I probably downloaded some other software that overrode the Dell speaker installation. How do I reinstall the Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers?

The speakers are probably fine. What you probably need to do is to reinstall the sound drivers on your dell.

You need the model of your dell pc and go to the dell website and find download and install the sound drivers for your system.

The model of your pc will be needed if any more assistance is needed.

Were can i get parts for a altec lansing iM7 ipod player

You won't be able to by conventional means - probably not at all.

Unconventional means:
1) Find someone selling a broken or very cheap altec lansing im7
2) Send an e-mail to the Altec product development team, and ask very nicely.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but most manufacturers either don't have parts available in the U.S., or they are not willing to sell them to customers.
