Hi:
The only way to diagnose this problem is to take the DVD out and inspect the take up rollers designed to take and eject the disc. If you hear sound when try to eject you may have a bad belt or the take up rollers are oxcided causing slipage during ejecting.

That's the problem though I CAN'T get the DVD out so there's no way to "inspect" the rollers, etc...the TV and DVD player aren't making any noise at all.

What you are describing is a bad/damaged optical unit in the player--some are sold but only as a complete unit.

Check disc

The DVD player's laser pickup assembly is intermittent and since it is brand new and under warranty take it back for replacement. There should be no issue with your TV set.

The disc is stuck in the player and the tv screen says it cannot get a signal.

Barbara, your dvd player needs to be either on channel 3 or 4. If you have a local channel 3 or 4 switch it to the one that is not local. Or it could be a video 1,2 or 3. Just keep using the remote in that format and you will find the signal.

DVD input channel reads "no signal" when I try to play a DVD

First I would run a dvd cleaner in unit! Second you could take tv apart and look to see if signal cable is loose. the power wire seem fine as it powers up, and accepts an eject dvd.

LG RH289H DVD Recorder Unknown Disc. Please check disc again.

I have had the same problem a few times. All I do is eject and re-insert the disk until it recognises it, this seemed to work for me
